My first 58 that I bought in 1960 and sold in 1962 was already showing sign of rusting away! Mind you it was being driven in Toronto Winters! Bob.
My Father changed cars every three or four years and he was not rich. they just didn't last back then. Funny you mention Toronto Winters Bob, as a boy we always had plenty of snow to play in and shovel, tobogganing down Riverdale Park Hill was a tradition my kids never knew.
Yeah as a kid I can remember taking our toboggans and going down the hill on Kingswood Road between Bracken and Queen! If there was alot of snow (usually never got plowed) no cars were on the road so we had it all to ourselves! Quite a haul going back up though!! Ray your correct about our kids and grandkids not knowing about the good life we had!!!!!!!! Bob.

1958 was a sales disaster for the GM cars. There were not well liked in 1958 so the survival rate combined with low sales makes finding any a challenege.
It did not seem to bother Chevrolet division much. Chevrolet did very well that year when others were faultering. I suppose being of a complete new design and haveing real sweet styling made that possible for Chevrolet. Poor Ford with the Edsel was a major downer and Ford lost a couple of tons of money. Cheers.George.

I'm confused when it comes to the comment about using many cars to restore a rust bucket and not calling it a restoration? I think using good OEM pieces increases the value of a car. It's alot better than using China knock offs. When I toured Nova Scotia they all looked like that car. Completely see through! My poor 65 SD cheetah spent a short time in Nova Scotia but from my resto pictures you can see the damage that was done. I'm glad there is guys out there that have the guts to fix a car like this. It takes huge B*lls. Anybody can restore a low miler but this one is a major task for sure. Paul.

Yes I see that you are. My point was a highly positive comment comparing the car to a new build not a restoration. It's semantics. The car is now like a brand new car made with genuine GM parts so that is a good thing imo.

Chevrolet sales were 250,000 down in '58 to 1,430,449 from 1957's total of 1,688,224. 1959 was back to normal at 1,664,385 once the one year only '58 was replaced.
