Aftermarket Wiring Harness Applicability

I would like to replace the original wiring harness in my '64, but I'd like some input from anyone who has done this before. I want to make as few modifications to the new harness as possible.

Is it better to order a new harness for a 64 Chevelle and modify the dash harness to fit the Beaumont/GTO/Lemans style instruments?

Or

Is it better to order one for a 64 Lemans/GTO and modify it to work with the Chevy engine?

What about the plugs at the firewall? Does anyone know if they are the same as a Chevelle, a GTO, or both?

Does anyone have any experience with the American Autowire harnesses in a Beaumont? http://www.americanautowire.com/64-67gto.html

Or is it better to order a half and half?
Front half Chevelle, inside half Lemans/GTO.
Would a supplier be willing to do this?

I used chevelle wiring under the hood, and GTO inside the car.. (new from http://www.wiringharness.com
you'll still have to do some mods.. or. Painless wiring kits are an option. I know bud stevens used a kit on his 65, but I cant remember which one.
I think it's posted somewhere on the site

Call American Autowire. Very good kits, better than Painless for sure. (I sold both for many years). I used Chevelle, but I would use GTO next time. A few small things I had to change under the dash , but the GTO dash is the same as Beaumont, so thats the way to go. Under the hood, GM is GM, so the alternator and distributer wires are the same anyway. The tech guys at Autowire are great, they know what they are doing, and they have the patience to talk to you. If your in the west, Fortins Supply, Rick - 604-853-2886, can get it in for you.

I would think there would be some differences in the GTO underhood vs Beaumont as well, but maybe nothing that can't be overcome. Stuff that comes to mind would be-

-battery on the opposite side

-starter on the opposite side

-ignition coil, alternator, temp sender and oil sender in slightly different locations.

Likely no matter what you buy you will have to be doing some modifications.

Ya that's what i was thinking reading this Carl. i bet modifications under the hood would be easier than under dash.
