Hi guys I noticed this going up on ebay recently. They were the parts that GM provided for the big delaminating engine mount recall they had in the late 60's (I think) My 66 came with them and even though the new mounts have the improved design that made these unnecesssary they were too cool to toss so I put them back on. They are for the big block only.
Here is a link to a quick you tube video of where they fit.
These were GM's answer to a poorly designed mount. Cheaper than actually replacing the mount itself. My Dad recalled installing many of these kits when he was a tech then. If the drivers mount let go the engine would raise up and jamb the throttle wide open! Not good at all.
not only big blocks had the problem but small too.i took out two rads and a fan blade while racing with stock mounts and a chain on the driverside, urathane mounts are cheap insurance now.

I seem to remember when I broke mine on my 66 Biscuit with a 2 speed power slide colum shift it pulled the tranny cable into reverse. Chain it down after that.
I gain more knowledge every time I log into recent posts. It will be the first thing I look for on the 396 that I bought last fall when I bring her spring debut this Sunday. Her twin with the 283 never had the hold down kit in it.

Don't laugh guys, I had a old school engine mount break at WFO and lift the engine pinning the throttle once. Lucky I was quick enough to turn key. The strap was a good GM fix imop.

The funny thing is that putting it in neutral works and yet you would never think of that as an option because the first thought is that the engine would go wild and blow up!
