Last week a green 70 acadian was posted here . It had sold for around the 10 g Mark with it's stock 6 cyl. It was unmolested for that money. It was listed here with a 454 now.
Just observing that this nova is listed at comparible money.

Us folks with reasonable classics with reasonable economical motors in them are laughing all the way to the bank these days. I can have just as much fun driving my 57 6 inliner as anyone with a GAS PIG putting out 350 plus horsepower and getting 10 MPG if they are lucky. With todays gas prices at just about $1.40 a litre and ethanol gas not going very far because it burns quicker than pure gas, i am real happy i have a six in my car. Six in a row, one barrel carb, 148 horsepower, 3 speed stick with a reasonable rear gear. I can use the crappiest regular fuel on earth and not have to worry about my motor pinging into oblivion. Easy to maintain, quite and real super reliable. The money i save in fuel in can put into car show fees and snacks at the many car shows i attend through out the summer. Another factor is the premium fuel and high octane aditives that some of these high output engines need to be able to run right and do not forget how much more it costs to build a high output motor compared to a bone stock engine. Of course each to his or her own and as long as you are happy and you are not going broke into the poor house because of your HORSEPOWER addiction, then enjoy and pay the piper. I for one am loving and enjoying my 148 horsepower of classic JOY. Cheers. George.
Well said George...
Someone is going to have to take you for a ride in a Muscle car!
148 HP and saving money, is like wearing black socks and shoes at the beach
I have owned cars that pack a Chevy V-8 punch so i am very well versed in ponies under the hood. Where other than a drag strip do you expect to really enjoy the power under the hood. Seems kind of wasted to me unless you are getting your beast on the drag strip for its full potential. I suppose if a person has money to burn (pardon the pun) then what does it matter if there 500 HP big block gets 7 miles per gallon. What i have come to realize is that many of the folks that i know in the hobby with these big engine brutes are not really enjoying them and driving them much. They spend more time as garage props because they are not practical to drive long distances and in hot summer traffic and need a tank full of fuel before your Stepenwolfs greatest hits 8 track runs out. On the other hand us folks with our sensible engines do not have any of these concerns and most of us do not wear black socks and shoes at the beach. Head out to my 57 Pontiac six, no need for million dollar fuel, no need for million dollar fuel additives, no consent tuning and adjustment, no over heating in slug traffic, no high prices for highpo parts, no "FUNTIME" speeding tickets, no hassle from the cops for noise, no theft magnets for those expensive parts on there, no hassle from David Suzuki and Al Gore for killing the planet (hmmm) all in all i have no doubt that i am having just as much fun if not more fun than 427 Carl and the army of high performance folks out there. Cheers. George.

I had a 1970 Chevelle 300 Deluxe sedan with a 250 six and the 350 automatic. Man could that car haul in stock form. This car also had the optional rear gear that was around 2.90 so on the highway this car was a rocket. The original owner spent a fortune ordering that automatic in a basicly low cost car. I enjoyed the combination because i got super gas milage and the power was very resonable all thing considered. Cheers. George.
