hello all can somebody here post a 1967 Beau or chevelle open trunk pic to allow me to see how the weather strip is set allong the edges
i am intrigued by the chanel beeing irregular in the corner and the weather stipping does not insert as nicely as the rest of the chanel in these places
makes me wounder if i am missing a part on my car ??
i also would like to know where does the weatherstrip joint goes originaly
i figure it would be at the top of the opening in the middle.
thank you all

with the flat area of the weatherstrip at the bottom & look at the end profile. You will see that the top of the weather strip will taper to one side. This taper should always face away from the trunk opening. The 2 ends wil always meet at the centre bottom of the trunk opening. Any where else and you will most likely have a leak
And I believe that there are video's on Youtube showing it being installed.

ok , so the joint goes at the lower side of the opening.
if you look at all those pics posted , the chanel ( where the ruber runs throught ) are not constant , notice in the corners of the trunk opening , the chanel has like some dents throught it ??? ( can anyone tell why they are built that way??
thats what i noticed on my car and i thought i had a part missing !

MY BEAUMONT HAS 4 STUDDED TIRES AND 2 BLOCKHEATERS......AND LOTS OF OIL UNDERNEATH. The other one has a longer roof.
I was wondering the same on Dave's car, looks like 12" off to the left... I'm quite sure mine was centered on bottom originally, that's how i reinstalled my new one...
'Since 1983' can you post a picture of what you are saying has dent's in it? I don't remember any particular dents in the channel on my car, I'll have to look later when i'm at home...
AK look carfully at some of those pics , you will see those dents in the chanels close to the corners of the opening , ( look at the third pic by the trunk cover hinges )

I see what you are referring to, i went out the garage and looked in my trunk. The 'roundish' dents towards the end of the straight run of the channel on the sides of the trunk are either a crimp or spot weld of some sort where the factory tucked in the two corner peices that make the turn, the ones that have the tabs folded over to hold the weather stripping. Looks like its pretty standard on the cars, no trim is missing, its a little crude, but that's how it came from the factory imo.
