radio problems

Just wondering if anyone can help me.I had my radio sent out to have it upgraded to am/fm/mp3 and when I have hooked it up I get no reception, just static. I checked with the guy who rebuilt it and they bench test them and make sure they work before they send them back. Would a break in the antenna wire cause this? And would anyone know if there is only one wire coming of of the original speaker in the dash or should there be two.

The radio was not in it when I bought the car so I don't know if it worked or not before.

Thanks guys, this forum is great and I would be happy to contribute to it if they decide to charge a fee.

Should be two wires. A positive (power) and a ground,

are you getting static on both AM & FM?  You can bench test it, just poke an awl, dental pick or something like that in the antenna hole.   And yes, sounds like you have a faulty antenna or lead.

As for dash speaker, typically there's only 1 wire, as the speaker is grounded which acts as the 2nd wire.   Depending on how they wired the radio, you may have fried the output transistors connecting one side to ground.  Often people replace the dash speaker with a twin cone one for stereo sound (that'll have 4 leads from it).
