52 Pontiac Steering

Can anyone help track down the steering parts in the attached picture? This is for a 1952 Pontiac Fleetleader Deluxe & have been having a heck of a time trying to find them. Any assistance would be great.

From the look of it its the same as Chevy from 49-54 so if you expand your search you should find some pieces.  Don't forget the pin that holds the wishbone to the cross memebr.  It usually has quite a bit of play in it on those cars if they have any kind of mileage

I usd to have a 53 chev with the same problem and between the loose nuts holding the wishbone to the crossmember and the end play on the pin it used to wander all over the road.  There was a cheap after market fix for it ofered years ago that worked by having a housing that slid into the end of the wishbone pin housing and then had a set screw that you could tighten to get rid of the end play at least temporarily.

I think I have the box still (i'll post a picture) and you may find one on ebay. It'll help your problem unitl you can find all the right parts

it does sound like you have more problems than just end play though..

Thanks. I will give them a shot. The 3 parts I need are pretty much ready to fall out. The "wishbone" shaped arm has actually been moving up and down enough to start gouging the oil pan. We just got her painted last summer & I was beginning to worry we would end up with a lawn ornament instead of a classic car.

There is enough play in these parts the "wishbone" or idler arm has actually started to gouge the oil pan where the tie rods attach to it.

Better get all the parts then.  Trying to patch it together for a bit longer doesn't sound very safe.  Good Luck and hope knowing that Chevy stuff fits has made it easier.
