Bent diff-axel housing scenario

Finally, may have pin pointed the lingering steering issues after doing everything possible, sometimes mulitple times.

It appears that after a 4 wheel alignment, the rear wheels are toed out, indicating a bent-damaged rear end housing, with one side more than the other, therefore likely the cause for the constant wander to the left.  Probably explains why it was fine when it severly dogtracked...So, probably a long shot, .... but.... is it, would it be, ...possible to have a rear axel housing assembly straightened??

you would have to remove, to straighten..

just replace it with a "good"one     probably cheaper

Steve, I'd replace the whole differential.   I think there are some differences between the 65-70 units, but I'd be confident that 65 & 66 are the same.  I'd check with Dale at Flatla Auto Wrecking in Tilley, AB  and also with at Tony at Den's Repairs, he's west of Bowden to see what they have and you can remove it.   Use the ring & pinion from the new diff, and swap the brakes, etc from your diff (or just put on new).    There was a 67 12 bolt at Rick's Garage Sale, I don't know who bought it.

Ya, replacing the whole deal is likely the best, easiest solution.  I had a 67 -12 bolt I bought from Rick a couple years back, but sold it last winter since I have an 8 bolt and it has different mounts.  The current gears are in great shape, so I will eventually start looking for another 8 bolt and transfer the parts.

I'm sure either Flatla or Den's will have a 65 you can scavange a diff from.  Plus there's Ken in Torrington that will likely have a 65.

If Tony's is the same place west of Bowden about 10-15 min then right on a dirt road-there shoud be a original Purple '65 Pontiac B body with a white roof sitting in the grass. I took the bench seat out of that car a few years ago.Hit hard in the left front, but repairable.Very pretty color. He's got some neat cars in the yard, and it's a nice ride as well.

Yup, that's the place.

Steve, I'm a bit stumped by your "8 bolt" comment.   I thought only 10 and 12 bolt diffs were available.
