Hi Chris, ya that's what I was talking about in your other thread ... fouled plugs. If you don't plan on driving your car hard, you can go up one heat range on your plugs so they don't foul.

I was having the same problem, and found out the previous owner put the wrong heat range (cold) plugs in. I put in a hotter plug, and now my engine starts everytime, and runs great ... burns all the fuel, and the plugs never foul.

I don't know what plugs your engine takes (as mine is a 283), but do a little research and you'll find the right plug for your car. Just make sure you also gap them right.

Reallllly happy with the new R45S plugs and new BOSCH plug wires i made "real wire" this time (the old ones were carbon just like the coil wire) it runs alot smoother but still has a little shudder, i think it might clean its self out now that its getting a better spark. ran it for an hour, just got better and the bonus of knowing that the thermostat and Temp gauge work about 185° and cools down quick to 170ish. I'm starting to love this 6volt six Poncho lots more. Now to just figure out why the fuel gauge is not working, the tank looks newer on the car (no rust at all on it), i dont really want to drop the tank if i dont need to.

Thanks guys, I found out that I do have the correct plugs in the car R45S, I will be getting new ones. I also noticed that the coil wire is a carbon wire, I will also change that out with a real coil wire "wire" and remake new plug wires. I hope this keeps her going for a little longer this time

I find that 9 out of 10 times the solution is simple, we always somehow think the worst. Probably all that was needed was a good ground.

I had my oil pressure gauge go off the scale, OMG first thought is engine done, then oh darn I have to pull the cluster, Pain in the neck. I know, why not change the sending unit, 20 minute job and presto I have oil pressure again smile

stick with the 'S' (extended tip) version, helps prevent fouling also

for the fuel guage, first thing to do is ensure the sending unit is getting a good ground. Re your ignition system, change the cap, rotor and points while you're at it. For $40 you'll notice the difference, and everthing will be new.

go solid state, i bought the one that goes in the original dist cap and it smoothed my old 6 cyl right out..

The cap, coil and points look like they were replaced not too long ago, they are all very clean. For the fuel gauge I think the float in the tank might be stuck or something, when I turn the ignition on, the fuel gauge moves up to the "E" on the gauge no matter how much fuel is in the tank, I will be going through the electrical to see if there are any lose or dirty connections this week.
