'60 (and '61 IIRC) Buicks had a "Mirro Magic" instrument panel. The speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge were actually located on a near-horizontal plane at the bottom of the hooded area of the dash, with the digits printed in mirror image. The driver viewed them through a mirror which utilized a thumb wheel to adjust the angle of the mirror for the viewing pleasure of all drivers regardless of height. If you look closely at the above pic you can see the mirror angled towards the driver.
I love all the imaginitive and sometimes hokey tech from that era...

Ya, I forgot that you liked the Chrysler products of this era, looks like Buick was snooping through the Chrysler design studio garbage pail.
Actually, Ray, you're more right than wrong. From what I've read, the original styling concepts for GM for 1959 were chunkier designs along the lines of the '58s.
Apparently, somebody from GM styling saw the new '57 Chrysler products on a back lot when they started rolling them out from production. As the story goes, GM brass felt like they were caught with their pants down and going in the wrong direction, so a wild thrash came about to change the styling direction for the '59 models, resulting in lower, sleeker, befinned "love 'em or hate 'em" '59/'60 GM vehicles...
