51 Pontiac Chiefton U.S. model, tag says "made in GM Canada"??

Sitting at one of our local wreckers, The car has the U.S. front fenders, trim and rear tail lights but the serial tag says "made in GM Canada". I know im still new to the old poncho's, i thought the Canadian models were only based on the Chevy "frame and body". are the tags just made in Canada? this car had a winnipeg dealership metal plaque on the back too.563924_4193273596061_418732029_n.jpgIMG_20120625_150203.jpg

The grille, windshield and other parts measure the same as my 52, the body tag was on the front of the firewall unlike my 52 that has the body tag on top of the firewall. Im just confused a bit on the history that iv'e been learning.

Chieftan was made here. Use 1955 as the hard date for Chevy based Pontiacs in Canada. before that there was a mix of US nameplates and styles and Chevy based cars. 1953/54 Pathfinders are Chevy based. 40 and 30 Pontiacs built here were US designs and nameplates as well.

ok, but Chevy based Pontiacs are only Canadian? i found a site that does split up Canadian and U.S. models www.caaarguide.com  (sorry still cant get links to go live from my stupid acer tablet) This sight says the my car 2069 is a Fleetleader Special (2269 is a Fleetleader Deluxe that i have been told mine was by a few people) here is my tag,

If I remember correctly my 52 Pontiac Chieftan was a model 27-69 which had the US body but yes was built in Oshawa!  The model 27-69 indicated that it was a straight eight 4 door sedan!  The car in wrecking yard tag says 25-69 which according to my info would be a US body with a 6 cyl four door sedan! Does this car still have its engine and is it a six?  The smaller Chev body style Pontiacs where models 20 and 22 which would indicate either a cheaper model or more of a deluxe model 69 again being a four door sedan. Hope this might clarify things!  Bob

yes the chief in the wrecker is a 6cyl 4dr chieftan 25-69 entry level car. my Pontaic 20-69 is a Fleetleader Special also entry level. does someone know what the "Trim" level breakdown is? www.caaarguide.com does not list this info.

I'll stick my $.02 in here. I owned a 53 Pontiac a long time ago, Canadian built, that had a flathead six in it. Was this original?? It was a Canadian car, but I thought they came with the Chevy OHV 6??

Yes that was the correct engine, the Pontiac flat 6 was the only engine for the Chevy based Pontiacs, the Chieftan and Sedan Delivery had the option of the flat 6 or flat 8's

yes they have Cheiftain based US chassis cars here in Canada. Higher level and cost. Here is what it should look like. This is a 1951 Cheiftain deluxe.
