a good day thrashing on the 54

Well finally got a full day to get after my 54.So after a day of thrashing the rear wheel cylinders are cleaned up and re-installed,new rear shoes on,new e brake cables on,new rear drums painted and on.Also new shocks all the way round, oil changed.Down to the final little things.A couple wires under the dash that have the fuse connectors disconnected.Picked up some fuses the other night so just need to figure out which wire goes with which one but hey only 3 to figure out.A couple of dash lights to change since they seem to be the only lights working on the entire car.Waiting on the new carpet kit to arrive,it's been a few weeks so hopefully soon. And put the hood back on but of course after a year i've managed to miss place 2 of the hood bolts, doh. Finally still need to track down the pear shaped trunk lock.A quick trip to the muffler shop and inspection and all should be good for the first drive.

Keep at it. You will have to show a pic or two if you can. Did you find the hood bolts yet ? Are they anything special or just hex head bolts ?  If there special style bolts I could look in or local wrecking yard as there is a 53 in there.

Wow !!! they sure want a lot for those trunk locks $75 and up. I see they used them on buicks and olds also. As well as 60 to 64 corvair's.

Yes the hood bolts are special, they are fine thread and have a shoulder on the so the hood hinge doesn't bind. The ones of the 53 are the same as the 54.Yes those locks seem to be pricey,i knew about the buicks but not the corvairs.Even worse when they don't even have a key and they want 80.00.I did find one for 50.00 with a key and should have snapped it up but tried to get it a little cheaper and got outbid at the last second, doh!!I'll post some pics soon, hopefully i can drive it out of the garage this week and wash off a couple years of garage dust.I am really hoping the carpet shows up this week, less than 20 days to the local car show and would really like to have it there this year.

alright, got the rear brakes finished off and bled.new carpet showed up and is installed as well as the seats and sill plates.Someday i'll have to track down some new plates but mine are ok for now.I still can't seem to get the dash lights working.I changed a few bulbs but still nothing.I have the light by the ignition working but that seems to be the only one, signal light ones work and the high beam ind works just not the 4 for the dash cluster, weird. So another day of checking things with the test light.Beaumont if you have a chance to grab those bolts i would appreciate it.

Could be the dimmer on the headlight switch.

Yes Bob53 is right, the dash light (outside the ignition switch) is light up by the reostat on the light switch. Look around it.

To remove this switch from the dash, a small button is on the switch under the dash for unlocking the «pull rod knob», push this small button and pull out the knob.

Fitz.

I went to the wreckers today and got the bolts for you. I should say we got them as I met Chris (B-52) there also grabbing some parts. He gave me a hand to get the bolts of. Realy nice guy by the way and hope to see him at a future coffee gathering some day. I managed to get three there is a story about the fourth one. I tried removing while spring was still atatched and it went shooting out some were under the car. Could not find it but managed to get the other three after we took the springs off. Any way if you could PM me you address I will mail them out to you.
