you can get the info for your car from GM using your vin number. Sounds like a great car. Welcome

I am thinking you have an extremely unique car. I don't think I've ever heard of a bench seat 4 speed 396 Sport Deluxe, although we know it's possible.

Welcome here.

As 70 SS Acadian suggested, with such a rare car it would be well worth your investment to get the documents for it from General Motors.

Well, the 738 is a 396 Sport Deluxe (starting approximately last week of November 1966), 17 is a d dr ht, 1 is the shift at the factory, 5 is the month (May), 24 is the day in May, Body number is just that, I don't know the 9, FF you have already decoded, 729 trim you have decoded, M20 is the 4 speed.

I don't know of a link but that info can be found in scattered areas online!

 Carl, there is a maroon 67 SD 396 bench 4-speed here in Ontario---actually the first SD I recall seeing-it was featured in the "chevelle news" magazine in 1983 or 84 from Breslau-it then went to Richmond hill, then moved north

Hmm, now that I see you say that, I think you did mention that one once before. Certainly a rarity in the Beaumont circles!

Many years ago, I would have called "BS" on that combination but I know better now.

Easy to prove these bench seat SD cars though, no matter what people think or say.

Body No. OS  840781
OS = Oshawa, ON

Paint 9  FF
9 = Enamel
FF = Marina Blue Metallic

The number prefixes were used in 1966-1968, a "3" prefix indicates acrylic lacquer, and a "9" prefix indicates enamel paint.

Hi Magic, I was looking for more documentation on my car also. Between this site and Canadian Classic Chevelle and Beamonts I got alot of info.

But I was still wanting more, so I contacted George Zapora at GM Vintage Vehicle Services, 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa, On. L1H 8P7

or george.zapora@cc.gm.ca or www.vintagevahicleservices.com . He will email of fax out a form that you will have to fill out and

return to him. There is a cost, about $75.00 but you will have proof in hand ALL info about your car.

Congratulations with your, what sounds like a rare Beaumont. Hope we get to see pictures real soon.

Hi Magic R, also since you are ready for paint.. don't forget some of the difference between the canadian cars and US chevelles.... like the firewall and trunk area being painted the body colour (I'd hate to see it done in boring black!!). Can't wait to see the car, sounds nice!
