BARN FIND '67 Malibu

My friend just picked this up, and it hasn't seen the road in over 35 years.  He is wondering what the options are in the VIN  ??????  The body is solid  , and lots of GM chrome in boxes.

original 4 spd car... nice...

I bought a similiar 67 Firebird 2 months ago that had been pushed around a few garages over the last 18 years or so.. only thing that sucked was that the parts were in boxes..and there is stuff missing ... had been lost over the years...

Plain jane bench seat  stick car ?   cool!    The 396 would have come in the SS  Malibu only?

correct!!  malibu ss in 1966 and the early built 67 were bucket seat cars with the rat motor!!

My 67 Chevelle Malibu Sport Coupe was built less than 2 weeks after that one and is also a JJ paint car with the 759 black cloth bench seat. Too bad it is a 135 car (6 cyl) and it say M35 on the tag, not M20.

Nice score! Does it have a 10-bolt or 12-bolt out back? From the factory if it were a 283 car it would be a 10-bolt, but the 327 together with the M20 that year (& 1968) came with 12-bolt rears (3.07:1 ratio). If it were a 327 it would not say L30 on the tag.

The engine code will be on the door sill?    The car came with two 12 bolts  and a Richmond 5 speed.

The v.i.n. on the door jamb will only tell whether it was a six or V8. The rtim tag on the firewall lists only certain options that were significant to Fisher Body when the bodies were made. If it was the standard 283 or optional 327 it would not say, but had it been an A51 Sports Option car with an L34 396 it would say so. Check under the back seat for a Line 100 tag attached by hog ring. It will list the colour, interior and all options in code. Failing that you could dole out for a Vintage Vehicle Services package from GM Canada.

Cheetah, I don't have the TH400 figures for Canadian Chevelles & Beaumonts, but probably a VVS package could break it down, I do know that the early 1967 Canadain Chevelle brochure does not list the TH400 but all 1967 Beaumont brochures do. My early Chevelle option & price list does mention the TH400 however.

I wonder if our future generations will be doing similar projects , with 2010 Camaros, Challengers , and Mustangs.    Investing in a current muscle car might be a better bet than the stock market  confuse

WOW!  Nice car. L30, M20, PW8 (F70-14 redline tires with wider 14x6 wheels), 12-bolt Positraction with 3.07 gears, tinted windshield... Major SCORE!

It was a major score!  No rust holes either ,  it has both full size GM 1/4 panels  already welded in , possibly done by Corvette specialties way back in the day.

It came with a built up 396, and a complete big block hood ,  one bucket seat and a 4 speed console.  Looks like someone had plans to convert it to an SS car a long time ago.   Harvey will probably put it back to original stock , except for a  engine with more power , and 5 speed. He likes the sleeper bench seat plain look.
