2+2 conversion, center console and bucket seat for 1968 Parisienne

My project for this summer is to install two bucket seat and a center console in my 68 Parisienne. I started this weekend with a console, shifter, and wire that I bought several years ago. Looks like this is not the correct models. Cable shifter looks too long, the shifter itself can not seem to attach to the console.

Can someone confirm that is a 68 2+2 shifter ?

What should be the lenght of  the wire?

For the consol itself ,Im sure it's the good one.

I have some reference picture from a 2+2 ,but the shifter and console were not there.

The console is correct. Any '68-'69 Impala console will work. The shifter, however, is from a Chevelle. You need a shifter from an Impala that looks like the picture below...minus the rust!biggrin

The console you have is not 2+2. They did not have wood grain. They had the brushed aluminum look. Wood grain was for Grande Parisienne. I may have a picture.

The console is correct for 68-69 , but the shifter is not. The shifter can usually be found on ebay easily

On the console , the wood grain insert is correct for 69. In 68 the insert was a black pebbled insert.... just like the front cover insert you already have. easily rectified

Hope this helps

Your console is correct for 68 and 69 .  69 had the wood grain finish. The 68 had chrome seat belt holders ( fit into those square holes on the side) while 69 had 2 plastic seat belt pockets on each side that were screwed in . I can see the screw holes , so your console is most likely 69. There is also a very slight difference in the console lid ( underneath). Other than that they are identical and interchange

I've salvaged at least a dozen of these over the years from both Impalas and 2+2's. Cleaned them up , repaired them and resold them . From the angle of your picture the front cover looks like it has the black insert , or is it wood grain?

I parted out two 69 2+2 with consoles and they both had the woodgrain inserts. Perhaps the 68 Canadian 2+2 had the brushed alum , while the 68 Impala's had the black matt finish.  I've seen brushed plates , and just assumed they were ones , where the wood grain was removed ( as they were just painted on at the factory ) .

If you look at the SS427 website , you can look at the pictures they have of Impala interiors .

So, are you saying the console inserts on mine are incorrect? I have an original '68 Brochure. It doesn't actually show a 2+2 Automatic console but it does show a 4 speed console with the same Brushed Aluminum inserts. Would there of been different inserts available for the 2+2 and if not where does mine belong to?
