I am wanting to remove the old paint from my 2+2 louvers to do a repaint on them and then install them. They have been painted before with runs and not sanded smooth prier. I want to remove all the layers and start new. What is a good product out there that will remove the old paint but not affect the chrome? And don't say brake fluid!

I found oven cleaner useless on my Firebird (other than it burned my lungs). Any commercial paint stripper will work. Aircraft stripper is supposed to be quite good.
I bought aluminum aircraft stripper from Napa in a spray can, think it was 12bucks. Needed to strip two rims and it worked really well. The oven cleaner works also but i think the proper product is a better choice.

So the aluminum aircraft stripper is ok on chrome and not dull the finish? I like the idea it comes in a spray can.

Hmmm i wish i could tell you for sure. I used it on rims but you may be correct about dulling the chrome?. I threw the can away be nice to try it on a test piece for you.

I googled aircraft stripper on chrome and it seems about 50/50 on will it damage chrome or not. And $12 a can is a little much to just experiment. I have a broken 2+2 emblem and I'll experiment on it with the oven cleaner I think. Thanks for the ideas.

So I did end up using brake fluid and the chrome not affected at all. A slow process though since it only softens one layer of paint at a time, scrape it off and soak again. I could not believe how many layers of paint there were on those louvers. Top coat red, then black, then maroon, and then black again ( the original colour). And primer coats in between. Only a few left now soaking on the final layer and I'll be done.
