The guy has this late 70s Lemans priced higher than my rust free California Catalina 2 door ht.

I like it but it seems to be priced way over market for a plain 305-equipped 2 dr ht.

I now see someone else has picked this up on another thread - same general thinking that it's priced high.

He doesn't want to sell it.  He'll have it for the rest of his life asking $20K for it.

Heck, imagine having the choice of this at $20K or Carl's 455 4-speed Lemans at... less than $20K!

There's a no-brainer choice!

Obvious someone had more money than you know what! Carl's ride would've been a way more funner ride no doubt. With $20k to spend,I'd be on the internet looking for the best possible bang for my buck. There's so much for sale out there these days and for reasonable prices and with the economy the way it is most sellers are willing to haggle. My 2 cents .........

Well I'll eat my words on that one.  Maybe the market is different in NL?  I know it is here as most everything is priced about twice what it is in other places - only here it doesn't sell.

Oh well, it looks like an exceptionally clean example of a car that is really not popular - must have found the right buyer.

I'd still take Carl's Lemans over it if I were able to spend that kind of money.

It is on the whole east coast.

There isn't a glut of nice collectible cars here like other places.

Being on the east coast myself, I am very much aware of this but also aware that rarely do these over-priced cars find a buyer, as you see them for sale for months - or even years - until the seller either gives up or lowers the price.

I thought maybe NL was different than even us, since they are even more isolated and it is much more difficult to jump in a car and drive to another province to purchase a vehicle.

Either way, if the buyer and seller are both happy then who am I to say?

People do ask crazy prices here in Newfoundland. There is a mega amount of oil money spinoff on the go here.

I'd say he asked 20 and got 9. My car should be worh 30...lol. Mine is a Sport Coupe with good bumpers with the black trim pieces, correct engine compartment, I also have new shocks and springs and ball joints. There was a 77 for sale last year for $1500 I can't be sure but it looks like he bought that and painted it...dress up kit...new springs...voila .....20 g. There is a lot of that going on here my ex girlfriend works on the Marine Atlantic ferry and she says the amount of old cars, boats, quads, trailers that are being brought back by tow vehicles with Newfie plates is unreal.

I used to work at a machine shop in St. John's and two brothers that worked with me from Shea Hgts were bringing back 2 cars a year from Florida....same deal....minor mechanical, new paint....sell it for triple what the put into it!

Very interesting post!  Thanks for the perspective.

There was a show on CBC a year or two ago about the car hobby in NL.  I didn't know it was as big as it until I saw that.  Very cool!!

A beautiful place as well, I might add.
