looks like its going to be a really hot day-not sure if I'll go- at least a 2 hour drive there - and 2 hours back, sit in the heat all day hoping to sell a Pontiac that should have easily sold on this site
It would be nice to sell it on this site Ken but I really wonder how many guys have an extra 18 gs. jingling in their jeans and if they do they do have a few choices. Maybe 50 guys on this site? I think you really have to open it up and car shows are good because there are often guys there snooping. I would have thought Kijiji may have gotten you some results. by now. I would go and just enjoy that 4 hour drive in that car if nothing else. Getting exposure is big among car guys as we are pretty good about talking to others. I know that is how I found my car. Good luck either way.
Remember it is still a GM town and I have seen these GM Canada ordered cars get alot of attention there in the past. Last year there was a 69 Z/28 with similar pedigree and people were all over it. Better than average chance that a retired employee will recognize the car. If you can get a first hand account that is priceless plus it was built there on top of being a company car.
Another awesome day at Autofest. I'd have to say that this year I enjoyed myself the most of any, can't wait to get back in the morning. I won a door prize, sold enough car junk to pay my registration fees, buy lunch and have some walking around money, Met up with Steve, Dan, Jean, Dave, Ken plus countless other guys we know. Had a great day with Steve's Navy buddy Kevin. I am exhausted it was so much fun. Here are a few pics, too tired to load em all.

so-I go-I know the car needs exporsure to sell- I pump $100 of gas in it - head off from my 2 1/2 hour drive-car ran and handled great ! I get to Oshawa--there is NO signs whatsoever - but I know where I'm going so I head all the way down Simcoe street to the park-the lanes are now divided for show cars-the guy stops me and asks for the window tag (registration) I kindly tell him I'm from outta town and need to register-he turns me around and sends me 5 miles the other way to the Quality inn, (poor directions I might add) A couple decent ladies take care of me (once I find the registration on the second floor)I paid my $40 ( no complaints) they reluctantly let me use the bathroom and off I go again to the park-pull right in- no trouble-but now theres nobody directing where to go-I drive and drive-find a nice spot near the lake under a tree, interviewed by Oshawa newspaper reporter ! pics and all ! loves the car--I met Keith and chatted quite a while, ate my lunch, Steve came by, several couples spent a lot of time looking the car over-Steve came back--I'm really enjoying the day - nice weather-great scene etc.... along comes some guy on a golf cart and says "thats gotta go !" assuming the parking space I ask 'whats gotta go ?' he says 'the for sale sign - can't have it' he rants fairly heavy about it-I tell him I drove 2 1/2 hours to park here and try to sell it- tells me its in my contract - no for sale signs ! at NO point did anyone tell me this-he then threatened to throw me out - so I removed the sign-went for a walk to cool down-came back- talked to Steve and Ray for a couple minutes-I checked my contract - no mention of no for sale signs-I got in my car and left---the guy was at the gate when I was leaving yelling its a car show not a flea market !
OK OK - I understand you hold the show-you make rules (even if they are dumb) anyway tell someone before you go irate at me-
its been 19 years - this is the first I attended although I promoted it to many as an Auto Appraiser---that was the first and last I'll ever attend it - I doubt I can ever promote it based on what I experienced - sad - really sad- wonder why cruises and shows die
I heard that they will "throw" you out if you have & don't remove a for sale sign, also had some complaints on another site that they went to attend the Fri. night downtown DOO & couldn't get anywhere near it, as there wasn't enough parking spots reserved by the host club. Said they drove around the block many times then gave up & left. Remarks were "typical of a Canadian car event, not thought out at all for the # of cars expected"

Holy Canoli. I am so sorry to hear this. I can relate on a number of things or similar stories. Whats the big friggin deal. Its a Muscle Car. How many countless shows have I been to and there is a foreigner selling sunglasses and other crap not car related. That irritates me more than anything seeing wind chimes and crap at car shows. Maybe sunglasses, yeah but stuff 100% not even remotely related to cars. Whats the big friggin deal anyhow. 90% of the time a car guy sells to a car guy and the car comes back to be shown anyway!!! I woulda told the guy pound salt and walked away and left the sign in.
Crazy. Perhaps they should do what Moparfest does- have an area for vehicles for sale. I found I spent more time in that area when I was there. What's the big deal anyway? I attended the Zurich Bean Festival today. There were a lot of For Sale signs on cars there and there was a huge turnout.

I was weighing distance / demand for the car chose Autofest--in hindsight shoulda went to the Bean Festival I guess
Bothwell has a Car Corral. Its $10 to park there. Money well spent for exposure. I guess the hemroid up his but hadnt popped yet.
I see people in public turn blue all the time...and I have a boiling point myself...but that guy sure sounds like he was power tripping.
I dont blame ya for being upset and not wanting to return. A few years back I had my HotRod truck for sale. I happened to be working for Plunkett at the time detailing his fleet. Well his show came and I asked Steve in advance if it was ok to place a sign in for sale....he said sure no sweat... So I put sign in my window... Low and behold some person came up to me as I sat there with my son going balistic because of the sign on my dash/or front seat, cant remember. Little did he know I worked for Steve and he is a friend of mine. This guy unloaded on me for awhile. he said wait till I tell the guy running the show.I never said a single word to the guy. Nothing. Until he was finished and then I handed my cell phone and said hit....REDIAL.....;) He still walked away huffin and puffin. Oh well, takes all kinds I guess. I could have said more but I was there to enjoy the show with my son.
I went to my first Canadian show today and met some great people...it's true they were announcing through the PA system not to put For Sale signs on the cars, just inside...weird...If someone is in the market it helps to see the signs from far away...and if there's no purchase/sale there's no hobby...anyhow, here are a few pictures...CP members are ncicer in person !!!!
for starters a GP... I heard some people like these models...
I've seen this car somewhere before...
Loved the color of this two door post...
This guy kept following me...and took a lot of pictures...
This is for Darryl (Pontiacanada)...not one, but TWO dolls!!!!
Then we met the owner of this Beaumont, recently arrived from NB, car was really nice as is the owner (Larry if I remember correctly) we gave him info on CP
Original drivetrain, interior, car used to be pale yellow...
Mint interior
and last but not least... 73sc, 65Camino and Johnnee D
all in all a positive experience, weather was great, lots to see... finally got to meet some CP members and had a great time, very nice people
I have to say I'm very surprised you were treated that way Ken, If i was in the market for a car,a show like this would be the first place I'd go looking.
Black 66 Grand Prix belongs to one of the members in my club!! he used to have a 38 Pontiac Coupe street rod but made a deal on 66 & rod, G/P is a "NICE" one!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're killing me Jean. At least one doll will get run over, and the other will fly off the roof when the wagon peels out of there! Grown men and their "crying dolls"!
By the way Steve, love the new colour on the truck. I also saw a guy in Charlottetown with an orange t-shirt that said INMATE across the back (you reminded me of it).

Bummer to hear that this happened to you Ken. I attended the very first GM shows back in the day when I owned my 71 SS 454, then pretty much went every year until they moved it to the park. The last time I went was with my 69SS396. The gauntlet you have to run to get into the show is annoying as hell, imo. I saw the car show gurus giving some guy a hassle in his 70`s Trans Am verifying the year of manufacture of the car. This was the point I decided that I would not attend it again. They were kinda rude to buddy in the Trans Am until the year deal got settled out. I can't attend with 4 of my toys due to year cut off, so I just can't be bothered to take my 66 GTO.
The entire movement between cars, parts & car guys is what keeps this hobby alive & exciting. For most enthisiasts every new aquisition is a rush & you tend to go out and spend money on your new toy. It's good for the hobby & economy. In today's market these guy's need to realize that we need to do everything possible to keep our hobby healthy and that old "rush" alive. Running a line of guys checking this or that annoys me. Who cars if the car has a decrete ForSale sign in it, truth be known 90% of the cars are forsale for the right bucks.
Ken has done more than his part in keeping the hobby going in helping the right car get to the right guy, as a helpful resource and constant hobby promoter, that`s what you do when you have a car forsale, you encourage the hobby and offer that incentive for other`s to dream a bit about driving that car down main street or show it off at a local cruise night.
Great Pics!!! That last 68 'bird would be a blast to drive I bet

the white mid year corvette appears to be parked under the same tree I was !
I don't get it -Steve was there with me at the time "no for sale signs allowed"
wrong guy -I'm an appraiser in Niagara - I reccommend 'good' shows to customers
We get told out here Ken that they do everything better in the east but I am starting to wonder about that. I think that is plain stupid. Do they think you are creating some competition for someone else's sales or what. I go to a few shows out here and many, many times I see single day passes on vehicles just so the guy can get it to the show to hang his for sale sign and there are times where I have seen it work. Looks like you guys have all kinds of ways of weeding out various guys and cars from your shows and this is another one. Sad in my opinion.
