69 Beaumont Battery Drain

I work out of the country and only get back every 8 weeks. Every time I come back, my battery is dead. Something is drawing current even when everything is off. I disconnected the negative battery cable and I read about 30 mAmps from the cable to the post. I removed each fuse one at a time but the power draw remained. I disconnected the alternator with no effect. My next move was going to be to disconnect the voltage regulator...but I can't find it! The wiring in this old car is a real mess. I'm a real newbie to the car fixin' up hobby and at a loss as to how to find the VR and what to do next. Any suggestions?

Alternator may well be one with the integrated regulator so everything is contained. I am no electrical expert so have no suggestion where to head but one that caught me a couple times was my glove box light button was a little shy for turning off the light and one night I could see a little illumination. Good luck. Some of the experts will get on this I am sure.

You say you are away from the car 2 months at a time?

Is the car at home or in wonter storage...

Might be better to take battery out of car   and have a mechanical friend look at it in the spring

Is the regulator on the left side in the headlamp area?

Are you sure it's not a bad battery?

I just asked the technicians in our shop and they say 30 milliamps is considered acceptable and should not kill a battery in that time.

Charge up the battery and add a $10.00 BATTERY disconnect switch. Continue to look for the problem mine was the console light switch, running a battery down will eventually total it.

I know it doesn't solve your problem... But always disconnect my battery (disconnect switch) for safety-theft reasons etc...

I agree. 30 milli-amps should not drain a battery. That's about what stereo memory draws not a bulb for sure. Load test that battery first.
