Original order form for a 1966 Pontiac

I was looking through my dad's papers the other day and ran across this.  I'm not sure why he kept it except that it was the first new car he ever bought.  I actually remember going to this dealership with him when I was 10 and bugging him to buy more options. Looking at the rather skimpy order form I can see why he may have not even been aware there was cool stuff to be had.

I guess thats why I have the car I have. (Unfinished business)  He's almost 90 now and I really, really hope I get to give him a ride in the car he should have bought!

By the way what left of the car is still in my yard. Just can't throw any thing away!

Straight family car all the way although he probably got talked in to the shadelite glass and the deluxe seat belts. (That consisted of a couple of belt rewinders as I recall)

I still wonder what Western equipment was.

You also have to understand this was a big step up from the  53 chevy 4 door three on the tree car we had up to then.

Not much of a splurge on options there except the rear speaker!

4 door sedan, 283, glide, floor mats, PS, PB, block heater and tint? Make sense?

Ah, the picture didn't all load for me the first time! Now I see the rest of it!

Western Equipment is a cowboy hat and boots Ken. I thought you'd know that!

The F40 should be heavy duty suspension. Seems very very common on cars in southern Manitoba at least, and likely your area too possibly. I know any new vehicles that ever came to our farm in that era had very few options but a block heater and F40 was always included.

Right!   That makes perfect sense consdering the roads we had around here at the time.  I'll have to check if he still has the hat and boots.  He doesn't throw anything away either!

My Dad used to get his early cars more bare bones than that Ken. It's a wonder my Dad got the required windshield wipers! Later in life, he treated himself and got higher end models that were loaded (I had to tell him what stuff was and show him how to operate itsmile).

Have you got any pics of your Dad's car as it sits now?

Did your Dad get snake skin boots?

Its just goes to show the typical canucks back then just didn't have a lot of money to toss around for "frills".  I guess thats why we are so happy to find high optioned cars as they were pretty unusual back then.

Heres is a shot of my dad's car as it is today.  Some stuff, like the engine and the hood have been "harvested" and the frame is rusty mush so I'm afraid she won't be seeing the road again.

very cool.  To me, it's a typical western canadian car.   Somewhat plain, with just a couple fancy things in it.  But it got the family from A to B on those -40F days in Northern Alberta.   And that AM radio played late 60's - early 70's rock & roll, some of the best music ever produced.

They gave out a pretty decent Warranty back then - 2 years. I would have thought only 1 year.
