'71 Heavy Chevy - NB - I Find This Ad Irritating ...

Well he took off the hood pins and they came stock with them on from the factory, His is an auto, not a 4spd car I guess his "BJ" price should be lower now

Along with those 19,293 Super Sports, Chevrolet sold another 6,727 "Heavy Chevy" Chevelles in 1971. Introduced midyear, the Heavy Chevy package, RPO YF3, was an obvious response to changing attitudes, as well as an attempt to sell performance imagery to those who probably couldn't afford to operate or insure one of Chevrolet's few surviving super cars. RPO YF3 was nothing more than window dressing, although buyers could equip a Heavy Chevy with any V-8, from the standard Chevelle's Turbo Fire 307 to the LS3 Turbo Jet 400 (the LS5 was not available). YF3 features included the Super Sport's domed hood with tie down pins; special body stripes; Heavy Chevy decals on the hood, fenders, and deck lid; black accente grille and headlight bezels; and 14x6 Rally wheets without trim rings. Instead of $1000, the approximate askig price for the stillborn 1971 LS6, RPO YF3 added slightly more than a hundered bucks to a 1971 Chevelle sticker. Whether that represented an attractive offer or not is your call. :smokin:

Heavy Chevy The Very Sporty Chevelle

heavychvy.jpg 24.4 K

This is our new one, introduced the middle of 1971 and already a favorite. It's built around a Chevelle Sport Coupe as you can see here.

See the difference? You get a special understated black grille. A domed hood with lock pins. Special side striping and 14" X 6" rally-type wheels with special center caps and bright lug nuts. It's available only with a V8 engine (you wouldn't want it any other way). The Turbo-Fire 307 is standard, but you can order from three others including our Turbo-Jet 400. If that seems like a large choice, it is. But we know how it's fun to be choosey when you buy a new car.

Some other options you can order: special instrumentation including a clock, tachometer, ammeter and temperature gauge. And if you're that serious you'll want to look into our Positraction rear axle, wide-ratio 4-Speed transmission and power disc/drum brakes. you see, choosing is what the Heavy Chevy is all about. Settle for its looks or make it a h-e-a-v-y Heavy Chevy with options.

That's for sure, the first one "Lot 766" is considered the best example ever of one of these "Heavy Chevy's" and only brought $27,500. Maybe the guy saw a car sell for $10,000 but mistook it as $100,000 ashamed

If the car doesn't sell in the next 10 days,  it will go into storage and I will have an amazing Chevelle for next summer.

For sale is my 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle "Heavy Chevy" THIS IS A SUPER RARE CAR! This is am authentic Heavy Chevy with all documentation appraisals. There is only 3 heavy Chevy in the Maritimes. Mine is in excellent condition. The car has an appraisal for more than $ 30,000.

The car was painted in 2004. Hood pins were removed from the hood in the process. The wheels have been replaced at some point. All black leather interior with no tears or rips. The dashboard is like new. Headliner and carpet are all mint.

Car has original matching numbers 350cid engine and TH350 transmission. All in excellent condition.

These cars are much rarer than the Malibu and SS models. Hemmings Muscle Machine magazine just did a piece on the heavy Chevy. They stated that the Heavy Chevy's are catching up to the SS models and will surpass them soon as the cars are getting extemely hard to find.

A mint condition (12,000 miles) Heavy Chevy has sold at Barret Jackson auction for more than $100,000! The world is beginning to notice the rarity of these cars.

If you are looking for a muscle car that has the show and go, but also the added scarcity, than this is the car for you. When you drive this car, you feel like a million dollars knowing your alone on the road with one of these machines. Even the guy with the SS models turn heads when I drive by. Any Chevelle enthusiast knows just how hard these are to get.

There is an orange one in Timmins where the owner passed away about a year ago. An all original one owner 350 245 hp 4 speed positract with appx 20,000 miles. I am pretty sure the car has AC.

The car is in excellent condition. I do not know what has happened to it but when the owner was stil living he felt the car was worth $30,000. The car was bought at Calvert Motors in Iroquois Falls and the owner traded in a 1964 SS Impala with a 327 4 speed.

In this market the Heavy Chevy would be lucky to be worth $15,000.

Restored? A 4 spd auto for '72? A BBC with newer valve covers-newer big block? "A high level restoration". Restoration means back to/with original equipment or what was available in that year. Help me out here-Was a BB even available in the Heavy Chevy those years? If so I apoligize for my ignorance.LOL

Remember Gene's car with fondness. He was very proud of how well he had maintained it. He had it for sale before his passing but never heard whether it sold or not. Certainly a car worthy of demanding a bit of a premium but you're probably very close with your value.

I agree, and if it helps, that car has been for sale for 2 years now, so obviously this method will not sell an overpriced car these days.
