Thanks nailhead.  Just goes to show that the road to correctness leads to madness!

That looks to be the same green as the 396 car I mentioned. Go figure..

Early/late year? Certain colours? Repaints?

I think Ken opened a can of worms!

.....if you look close at mine, you can see a thin line of green along the moldings, but the rest of the back part is flat black.

hey nailhead, is that a parts car you've got there? Any door trim available?

I think that early cars had more attention to detail and as production moved along the plant manager would work for efficiencies and cost cutting measures. There are a number of questions like this for 73 LeMans owners to debate regularly as well. One has to do with the argent paint on the tail lights, some are 1/4" trimed some are 1/8" some are argent paint and some are chrome. Who knows the answer to factory correct but a hint can be found on the back of every sales brochure ever printed:

"General Motors of Canada reserves the right to make changes at any time without notice in prices, colours, materials, equipment, specifications and models and also to discontinue models. This right may be exercised without incurring any responsibility with regard to cars previously sold."

That's why I didn't go to the garage and check what mine has! It wouldn't have been much help..

I bet a black car should still have  flat black between the moldings.

Ken, my cloudy brain is slowly feeding me information!

I remember stripping the original paint off my 4 speed Grande Parisienne and there is no question the rear body panel was blue.

Plus I parted out a green original paint 66 Grande Parisienne and the panel was certainly green. And yes, it WAS a 396 car...!

Just for a minute i admired you for your knowledge and then I noticed that you got it by destroying nice cars!

 THAT THERE IS FUNNY!!!

Well... here's a quick look at whats its shaping up to be so far.  I think i will have had my scariest moment of the whole project trying to snap in my one good Grande emblem without snapping it in half.  A sweaty job!   The rest should be easy now. Lots more to do yet including readjusting the trunk lid.

I sure like seeing things coming together, the trim makes the color "pop"

I think after all that its supposed to be body colour.  If i find out different it will be quite easy to put the black strips on.

Thanks for helping!

It's beautiful that way. I think that colour has to be one of the best I've ever seen for that tail panel treatment.
