Set of rally wheels must be worth something too! Excellent buy Barry.
I had a 70 Impala 4dr with a 300hp 350 when I was 16. Added headers and dual exhaust. Went pretty good for a first car. Actually, too good. Had it pinned around a corner in spring time and hit some sand on the road that sent me into a light pole. That was the end of the Impala but the 350 found new life in a 67 Malibu.
Thanks Mike. Those are ralleys that I put on the car to move it, however, it did come with a full set of 15x6 ralleys with trim rings and derby caps and a full size spare in the trunk, mounted on a ralley!
Sad to say, but I don't have a picture of that car. My stepmother might. I'll have to ask her.
It was a nice looking car for a 4dr after it got a set of 15x8 ralley wheels. Was a light blue. Most similar color I have seen is Geoff's (03cts sport) 66 Beaumont. Had a ton of chrome around the side windows since it was a sedan.
Still recall getting the car, was fall of 87. Was getting too cold for my motorcycle and my dad was on my case to park the bike. Didn't have much money and it seemed that everything I circled in the paper was out of my price range so my father has a look and see's this 1970 4dr Impala with 150,000 miles, 350 engine, for $850. Of course he says, "what's wrong with this?" and I just can't believe it. The neighbor kid who I hang out with at the time is driving a 1970 Formula 400 Firebird and my father thinks I should have a big old boat.... So, off Dad and I went to check out this 4dr Impala and on the way he explains that if the 350 has a 4bbl and the 2 bump heads, it will be a 300hp. Now he has my attention. Anyhow, the car was in great shape and it was owned by the original owner with regular oil changes. Front end was wore out but otherwise a very good car. I think we made a deal for $800 back then. Drove it for the winter until I wrote it off. I'm sure the original owner would have cried if he had know what happened to the car he babied for 17 years!
I believe the upgrade makes no difference on the tag because there is no physical body change required for a 300 horse vs. a 250 horse?
AS WITH YOU CARL, I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE ONLY REASON FOR THE TAG WAS TO INDICATE TO THE BODY BUILDERS ANY CHANGES NEEDED FOR OPTIONS THAT MAY BE ORDERED ON A GIVEN CAR, BUT MY 2+2 HAS L48 ON THE TAG.
Found out some more info after work today. I found a bunch of documents in the glove compartment, somehow they survived in spite of the last 1 or 2 owners. ( where the car was in the kijiji ad, it had sat for 2+ years like that, the windshield had been removed and then just set in place. The dash pad was taken off, and the "cardboard" inner structure of the glove box was just dangling down. AND the car wasn't covered up.)
Going by the documents within, this is the correct mileage. I'm going to try and contact the original owner, it looks like he traded a 67 Corvette in on this car. Car was purchased Jun 9, 1970. I'll scan a copy of the sales invoice and post it .
That is good stuff and a real fine purchase. Curious I didn't see the disc brakes on the invoice. What code for disc on these or does it come as part of F40?
A slight de-rail here, but I'm guessing it'll be appreciated . This car was sponsored by the same dealer that sold the 70, J.Clark and Son's ( Clark Chevrolet) The oldest Chevrolet dealer in Canada and still open.
