As I sit here I start wondering about the differential in these cars, I know mine is a posi however what is the differential? they have a removable carrier as far as I can see, like ford 9 inch style, anyone got any info? how strong can these stock rearends be built? is it a full floater? semi? just curious.
Yes they do have the "Pumpkin" pot like a Ford. Not the strongest rear end & axle & brgs are a weak link. Interchange from 55 to 64 full size Chevy & Cdn. Pontiac!! They will take some HP & Minor abuse, I snapped a pinion off a 55 way back when due to too much torque & "side steppin the clutch" at "insane " RPM!!!!

Last year was '64. They are semi-floaters. Early straight axle Corvettes also used the same center section. I think it was Moroso that sold a Brute Strength center section for drag racing since the combination of high horsepower and sticky tires would expose the weakness in those rears.
