Westgate Chevrolet in Edmonton has a really nice clean original for sale, $10,900. Chevy's answer was the Monte Carlo aerocoupe. The 2+2 came in one colour and was availble in '86 only. They came fully loaded from the factory, I believe new they were priced around $18,000.

Even though this is a NASCAR creation and apparently Richard Petty had a hand in the design because the Monte Carlos were cleaning up, it was built in Ste. Therese so it is a bonna fide Canadian Poncho replete with Chevrolet 305 LG4 engine.

biggrin There is a nice original car for sale down south. Listed in Smoke Signals this month for $6,500 which Rat Boy believes is closer to a realistic price. I can post details if anyone is intertested since I don't think too many on here are POCI members.

Would like to see the post on the one you are speaking about. You are correct the price of $6500 is closer to being realistic.

Thanks

I'll scan the page tonight and send it to you via a PM. There is a phone number listed, not sure what state it is in.

i always thought they were gutless 301s. I know the 442 came with 307s. I almost bought one once.Unique car for sure.

The 2+2 had the lowest horsepower of the G-body trio in 1986-87. It had a LG4 305 which I think had 160hp, while the 442 (Olds 307) and the Monte Carlo SS had 180hp. (The last year for the 301 was 1981.)

They did both a 'standard' rear window Monte as well as an Aerocoupe rear window; the GP only came in one body style. The trunk lid is like a mail slot since the rear window doesn't open... it's really not a very functional car.

One of my car buddies in PA had an immaculate one, and always remarked on how little people cared about it, even Pontiac enthusiasts. He got tired of the lack of 'respect' and sold it off, buying a 89 Turbo T/A instead.

Back in '86 the Pontiac dealer in my community had one that sat and sat on the lot for over a year. Nobody could care less about buying the car. The 305 LG4 was the bread and butter optional V8 used in many car lines throughout GM's line up, certainly not a performance engine by any stretch. The L69 305 in the SS on the other hand had many perfomance parts from the Corvette 350 creating an engine in line with the profile of the car. Anyway in an effort to sell the car the dealer removed the rear aero window and installed a proper trunk and normal GP rear window. It was only after that they they were able to move the car.
