RE: My 65 Invader Build

Have you had the Malibu for a while with that engine?

yes "custom" made frame connectors....I couldnt find any that I felt would do the job properly, they all seemed bolt on (?).

The suspension modification on the rear is the front spring perch...filled the big hole where the bolt cup goes. Fabbed up some fillers and burned 'em in ....Voila!

- Update, ...So I have been a little busy lately....what was supposed to be a quick spruce up of my suburban has turned into pandoras box. In the meantime I have been collecting parts, I didnt realize I have aquired so much, most of this stuff is left over from other projects and aquired with other purchases and deals. This car is not a cost no object project, but I do want it to be a high end result. Because this car was a bit of a "basket case" when it first joined our family a lot of original stuff was missing or cobled up, there is a lot of restoration parts going into the Invader.IMG_7648.JPGIMG_7649.JPGIMG_7650.JPG

Small victory, I got the starter in tonight...only took removing the tranny, changing to a smaller flexplate, removing the header bolts, amongst other things.....

It has always amazed me how much this car resists being worked on.......but I do have such a huge soft spot for it.

Hey Carl every time I have twisted a wrench on this car it is this way.

I remember one time I took the engine out for a refresh, it took less than two hours on a gravel driveway...putting the same engine right back in with all the same equipment and setup took 4 full days in a cement floor garage.

Like I said I have a big soft spot for this car, when it is all together it is REALLY fun!

There's a couple of tricks for the manifolds and then they are not too bad. It's been a couple of years but it seems to me I made a "special' wrench for the passenger side frot bolts and that helped. You didn't have the spark plugs installed when you were putting manifolds on, did you? Some guys say the plugs are too hard to do but there are not at all bad, once again, if you have the right tools.

Little progress or small victories what ever you prefer
-electric water pump mounted (bigger job than it sounds)
-working on mounting an alternator (a machinist buddy is involved in this one)
-driveshaft loop is tacked together
-transmission shifter and switch panel mounts are welded up
-master cylinder/brake proportioning valve and line lock are mounted (of course the brake lines will need some custom reworking)
-still trying to figure out the roll bar door bars and door panel arm rests existing in the same real estate

my 97 suburban has been burning up all my "free" time (aka sleep time for most everybody else) I have been calling the burb "Pandoras Box" because it is a project that has taken on a life of its own.

Got a chance to do some work on the Acadian last night, got the transmission crossmember, driveshaft loop ,and driveshaft mounted. Took a stab at getting the alternator pulleys measured for some machine work. I didnt take any photos as nothing has visually changed, but I wll be tackling the roll bar as I cant avoid it any longer. haha. The roll bar has been causing me some grief as I dont want to modify the arm rests or the seat after some reflection I believe I have a solution. Photos will be coming soon when something looks like it has been done.

I guess I could show "pandora's box" (the 97 burb) as that has taken my attention of the Acadian for this brief time period and is no completed....

I keep forgetting this little interesting item. I found this at a walmart in Spokane Washington, I figured it was awesome enough to see such an item let alone in the USA. I have since saw it also at a store in Saskatoon. Tell me what you think :)

Well every once in a while a car hands out some surprises. After all these years I get a chance to pull the hideous door panels apart and find......The original Acadian door cards!!!

Little update - got the alternator sorted out .So it took a spacer on the harmonic balancer, a bushing pressed into the Moroso pulley, and some modification to the alternator housing. The alternator is a Denso unit that starts charging at 1200 RPM's it is mounted by a Summit aluminum bracket. I could have maybe done this easier, but I wanted a unit that would help maintain a charge of the battery when going deep into eliminationsIMG_7995.JPGIMG_7996.JPGIMG_7997.JPGIMG_7998.JPGIMG_8000.JPG
