Bad frame, and floors, and trunk, and  quarters  etc.

Unless you were "born in the back seat", its more expensive to fix than its worth

If theres new 1/4 panels with it, they, and the "parts" will be worth something...

too bad

Car must be in Eastern Canada?

It's hard to tell the size of the fuel line in the picture where you show the frame rust holes but a 327 would be 3/8 and a 283 would be 5/16"

My money is on 283. There is no sign of a 327 part on that engine.

If you can, ask him to get the numbers stamped on the front of the block, passenger side, right in front of the cylinder head. That will tell as well.

That's the only spot on the frame that is bad. Poked it hard with a screwdriver wherever I possibly could and didn't run into anymore rust. Did the same with the floor pans and they are solid front and back. Trunk needs to be redone also. In your opinion do you think it is worth saving and what do you think it is worth. Darren

Honestly I would stay away from that one unless you get it real real cheap, the frame would probably be tough to repair as you would have cut out a ton just to find "weldable" steel. Not to mention how scaled it is everywhere. Looks like it needs front fenders and lower quarters?? It looks like a big can of worms with lots of rot hiding yet. It would be cheaper in the long run to find something a little more solid to begin with.

Darren, you have to ask yourself honestly, am I able to do most of the work required to rebuild this car. Can I dismantle this car and replace (which is what you should do) this frame, can I cut out and weld in the patches that you run across on the body and you WILL run across them. Can I do the body work, mechanical work, and still assemble it when its ready and finally can I afford to spend thousands of dollars to do a restoration on a car that when its all done will only be worth $5000-$7500 car (and the $7500. would have to be really nice for that kind of money) I'm just finishing up a '63 wagon that the body was reasonably clean, the interior was dated and the motor was tired, we did alot of the work right here and I have access to alot of parts and good prices on whatever I don't have and I bet I've spent over $20,000. and am not quite done yet. My opinion for what its worth, and this is just me, but I've wrecked out cars better than that one, and its purely because it just costs too much money to bring back an average value semi-collectable car. Blood, sweat, tears, headaches, frustration, space consumption and lotsa' $$$$$$. Just be prepared, or maybe I'm just getting old!!! Either way, I wish you all the best and I truely hope I haven't offended you in any way. Cheers Dave

Thank you all very much for taking the time to view the pictures and most of all thanks for your honest opinions and advice on this vehicle. I am not offended by any of the comments posted. You guys just saved me a bunch of cash and a ton of headaches. Guess we will start our search again with the following ad: Father & Son searching for a vehicle to restore. Please PM us.

Sincere Thanks to all

Darren

Hi Darren, Glad we spoke earlier and as I suspected with your previous pictures this is a 283. There's no harmonic balancer just a flange as well as 283 carb, intake, v/cs and heads. As the guys are saying this car needs a frame and is very scaley underneath. All body braces in the pictures you have provided are swollen with rust and would disinigrete when trying to remove the body. A shame but it does look like a parts car. Too many years sitting in the grass. If you still have access to that 66 GP to look at give me more then a few hours heads up and I'll try to help.
Kevin

You have very nice drive but I guess you have very poor sens of photography because as you posted the photos which you took in different side views. Anyhow the car is very nice but you need to wash is one. Thanks for sharing.

Hi if you are looking for a good 65 project my brother picked up a couple of custom sport converts.  one stripped out but good body and one rusty but complete. That may suit you better.  if you are interested I could tlak to him.  He just turned 60 and I'm trying to get it through to him that he will never finish all his projects so maybe he should sell a few. Heck I'll be lucky to finish the two I have on tap.

Very nice car. Power brakes looks like everything Ive always wanted time to do to mine In 1986 I bought (traded 4 Lambs) for my strato chief 2 door sedan oh and its rust free traded a farm hand in Navajo Arizona. It does NOT have air cond although it has green glass 283 2bbl powerglide w power steering and crank windows manual suicide brakes. Suicide because thats how it was when it went out and I hit a small pole then a truck hit me in the back.Suprizingly not much damage. That was December 1987 So I rubbed down the Cameo paint with turtle wax put plastic card board under it piled blankets and tarps over it and it sat there for 25 years pulled it out last year now that I have a property were I can work on it properly. In the mean time Ive stripped 5 full size American pontiacs just to find the best parts off of them for the strato .Now Im finding the bumpers are different and the interior seems very snug in width.Im just fitting parts now before redoing .Im going to pull it apart and put it back to like new condition although since I will never sell it Im putting in GP interior with counsel small block 400 and 700 r4 and 71 rallye 15" rims and anything else I feel i would like in the car.Since I have just about every option made from other donar cars. Some may say Im basterdizing the cheif although Im keeping all original parts in case I get bored and put it back to the butter smooth cruzer it was when I was a young man. Ill post pics when time permits and Ican figure out how to do it. Ive been reading this site for years Ive never seen in person another strato Im wondrring how many 2 dr V8 cars where made Hava agreat evening. Pete
