I always admired the retractables however can you imagine the amount of $$ and patience it would take to restore this car? I understand there's something like a mile of wiring for the retractible hardtop mechanisms.
These are a classic example of buying a decent dry one for a resto candidate as opposed to rustoration but the upside is lots of reproduction trim and stuff is now available. I may know of one that came up from Arizona a decade ago and pokes it's head out of hibernation just long enough to drool some fluid on the roads of Cooks Creek every odd year. Not mine but lives close by. Love the "engine totally rebuilt when it went into storage" After looking at the pictures it makes me think Hmmm.....Grandma was young once too!
Cool car ... yes, a money pit. The washer bag is there!
What does that say on the washer bag......Stay Clear ? lol
Ya, stay clear of buying this car unless you have a huge bank account! Should be a money bag instead of a washer bag!

Not even thinking about the electrics of the top, just the body work alone will be EXPENSIVE from what i can see just in the small pictures here. Can't see the interior but can "imagine' the shape it's in too. Last one of these I saw for sale was around the 45g's mark in much better condition [ better than driver] & would be a "BARGOON" compared to the $$$ to be poured into this one!!!!!

needs total restoration engine totally rebuilt when it went into storage 10,000 obo
My next door neighbour had one for many years. He had everything working but the process of making it so took hours upon hours, not only during the restoration, but in maintaining it subsequently. That said he had years of driving pleasure from it too.

the ad states 'needs total restoration' !!!!! what would you expect to see ? a car that needs to be washed and polished ? if it were on a trailer on the way to the scrapyard everyone would be complaining it was getting scrapped ! (seen that posting before) -- the balance of buying restored or cherry has never ever balanced with doing one yourself --its a hobby - if you don't want it or don't think its feasable dollarwise then don't buy it -but don't bitch about it -- this car is an amazing part of North American automotive history - Todd found and posted a very interesting car here
Its always best to buy the best car you can afford - we all know that !
Yes it does state that it needs total resto. but the asking price will put you into it way over the finished value. If someone wants to go there :"Have atter" for the "SANE" it's too much !!!!!!

This retractable has just undergone a complete frame off, rotisserie, restoration. Nothing has been overlooked . It was completely taken apart & re-assembled using the best reproduction, NOS, or rebuilt parts.
The car has a 332c.i. engine with an automatic 3 speed C6 transmission, both of which has been rebuilt and tested.
All of the stainless trim and chrome has been refinished to show quality. The body and paint are both flawless. The car has all new weather-stripping, wiring, scripts, emblems, exhaust, suspension, lenses, ABC interior, anti-rattlers (window felt), lights & bulbs, inside & outside door handles, window cranks, & FORD script glass. Anything that is not new on the car was refinished to the highest standards.
The roof and mechanism has been completely disassembled. Everything has been replaced or rebuilt, including, all motors, switches, wiring, drive gears, circuit breakers, solenoids, power link arms, and ratchet assemblies. It has been vigorously tested, and is as good, or better than new.
The undercarriage is also renewed & all the fuel & brake lines are new & installed using the correct clips.
I have all receipts totaling much, much more than the asking price. A recent appraisal is available as well I also have pictures of the car from start to finish.
Price Negotiable. $65,900, NOW REDUCED -$59,900, *FREE heated winter storage until May 2013, if required!
There will be no disappointments owning this stunning automobile. It is ready to be driven or shown anywhere. If you have any questions or need more pictures, please contact : Bob at 613-623-7096

Zoinks!
Looks like it might have been a "good car" before it got smoked! The condition of the top baffles me in that it is in the "up" position but the windshield appears to be unscathed. I'm guessing that it was stowed away when it slid into a pole or tree and somebody subsequently was able to raise it to access some of the retractable-only parts?
