The popular Chevrolet Nova was introduced as the Chevy II in 1961 as a 1962 model. In 1966, hot on the heels of the newly restyles Chevelle also came a restyled Chevy II Nova.
The new Nova Super Sport was available with the economical six cylinder, or myriad mouse-motor derivatives, but clearly the hot ticket was the L79 version, a 327 cubic-inch 8-cylinder engine producing an astonishing 350 horsepower. Chrome engine accents, enlarged valves, and aluminum intake, four-barrel Holley carburetor. This engine has high-compression pistons and performance camshaft that meant quarter mile times of just 15.1 seconds in stock form. With minor modifications, the sub-3000 pound vehicle could easily enter into the sub 13 second range.
This nicely restored example is finished in Madeira Maroon red with matching red interior.
Clearly this car was ordered with one objective in mind, to go fast.
The center piece of this car is without question the numbers matching L79 327/350hp
with 3 speed manual, dual exhaust and a 12 bolt rear differential.
From there the power goes to steel wheels with hubcaps with redline tires for the ultimate sleeper look. This car definitely surprised a few people at the lights back in the day!!! This car has since been tastefully restored with beautiful base/clear paint and very clean interior. The L79 engine is nicely detailed including chrome valve covers and appropriate air breather. It now remains a car that wants to be driven and enjoyed, hoping for another opportunity to surprise the next person in a big block muscle car. If youre looking for one of the most understated muscle cars of the 60s thats fun to drive and enjoy, dont miss your chance to buy this one.

Nice car!!! But as carl said it's a 3 spd. still "BOLT ACTION" shift!! Can you imagine "power shifting" that??? Can see the linkage looking like spaggetti now!!!! $49,900 is a good "CHUNK" but it looks like a excellant car, just the wrong dealer has it!!!!

I remember one on the show room floor in 66 (Gorries Toronto), a blue post 327/350 with a 3sp column shift, black walls and dog dish caps. Sat there for a long time. I guess u know Tom from Dream Car Garage died. Brian
I kind of like the three speed manual shift on column. You would be surprised how many are out there!
not as fun to drive as a 4 on the floor , but different from a ll 4 on the floor L 79 nova we usualy see , there is probably a lot less out there , but it must be a nightmare to go to the strip with one of those!!
love that nova , my kind of poverty caps and my favorite color PLANE IS COOL

Why don't one of you guys from Ontario go there and test drive it. Try dumping the clutch at 7000 and get second at 7600 or so and then kind of let off. Hopefully Peter Klutt can go along for the ride. If the tach doesn't work just rev it till the valves float then shift. Let us all know how this works out.-make a video if possible.

i actually like the heavy duty 3spd say for drag racing behind small blocks, i have a hurst floor shift for it with a small h pattern, you only use first to second shift at 7800 then hold her to the floor to the end.

Yes, 66 would be the first year. Our new 66 Chevelle wagon was syncronized, our 65 GMC pickup wasn't.
impressive memory Carl , i was a toddler in 66 so i was to young to remember that my dads 66 custom 300 was a std on the tree with a 240 , that s info i got after over the years
so......................that makes you older to have noticed your dad not stopping completely to bring back in to 1 st in the chevelle ..................or you had storys told to you over the years and you are a young pup like me lolll
while i am on your case , could we see a pic of your acadian , ( that s my next score in the next years , when i am done with the Beaumont) but probably a Nova guess why ????

The Chevrolet 3-speed through 1965 was non-syncro low. Ratios were 2.94 low with the sixes, 2.47 low with V8s, and 2.20 low on the 1958 348 big cars (1 year only) and also optional on early Corvettes.
The Saginaw 3-speed was revised for 1966. It came with a 2.85 low on sixes and base V8s, 2.54 low on 327s and on 350s. That is the transmission used in that particular Chevy II L-79. Since the cars were light and tires were never larger than 6.95-14 from the factory, nothing should have broken. Saginaw transmissions were medium duty at best.
The H.D. 3-speeds were Borg-Warner through 1968, then Muncie after that. Actually the so-called Muncie was actually a Ford-built "Dearborn" transmission and it was pretty good in its own right. Chevy IIs didn't use the H.D. 3-speed until the 1968-model redesign; they were floor shift only in that application.

so..................if i decide to put a 283 with about 250 hp in my 65 chev 3 speed that has i ts orig 6 in place , the saginaw should be ok without to much abuse on that 2 ton more door

I can't help but remember the gears being ground on the truck when downshifting and it never happened on the wagon! And with 2 older brother who are complete gearheads, there was no choice for me but to like cars!
As far as the Acadian, it will be on the market as soon as the weather warms up if you are shopping for an Acadian.
Here's a link to some info on it when it was the monthly feature car here.
