In my case if I look like that it will be because of glass panes.

I cleaned up the channel tonight. I had hoped it would be rust free but I knew that the reality on a 47 year old car is that it would have some holes and I was right. Not bad but it has an area that needs repaired. Now I have to figure out the best plan of attack to fix it right.

hes full of it, glass supply companies sell different widths and thinknesses, but the best cars i found to steel setting blocks from are fords, they use two sliding plastic wedges to ajust the hieght of the shield after its in, as far as the depth in the frame if use a product like sika tack its thicker in consistecy and it dries faster so the shield wont sink like with other products. if im lucky i might be able to start bending steel today if i get the last of the forms done.

yup i thought so, thats one of the reasons i left the glass shop to start my own, fixing rustthrough on new cars with urathane is not a fix, ill fix it right and install a sheild how could you go wrong
I took my time and welded a piece in on my day off, plus still had time to take my wife out for a date/supper last night!
I am thinking I really need to get a little spot sandblaster to clean up some of the areas of surface rust where it's pitted a little bit. I can't get in to some of the pits to clean them up nice.
I have to find someone who sells those little rubber blocks to space the glass up away from the channel so it doesn't sink down in the urethane. The last time I asked from my glass supplier through work they said they don't have them any more which seems strange to me.
I was thinking of finding some old rubber matting of some sort and cutting out some little blocks for that.
