RE: new to poncho... need help.

Yes the interior is due to the top being ruined. I kept it covered as best i could. That woul be great carl. I would alao like to find an am/fm radio and get rid of the aftermarket panasonic and speakers screwed into rear panels. As for body there is some rust on wheel wells and rockers but not that bad.. other than chrome louvres behind front wheels... almost entire interior needs replacing but door panels and upholstery is available minus the badging. I definately have a long road ahead but it will be a great feeling to cruise to a car show and show the finished product to fellow can poncho mbers

You're looking for an original AM/FM?

They're out there, usually $200-$300 range. Not real tough to find if you are just a little bit patient.

Do you mean the little emblems on the seat backs? I wonder if they are the same as US cars? If so, I know I can find you some.

You'd also need the correct wheel covers.  i think the ones you have are 1964. I may have a couple.

I can help you with much of the interior badges and replacing alot of the pitted interior trim, dash chrome and gauges. I'm sure Tin man can also help. I don't have any of the six die-cast lower fender trims. When these get salted they don't come off without snapping the studs in the rear. They pit badly but a quality rechromer can repair and replate but it takes some patience and penetrating fluid to loosen the rear speednuts to prevent further damage. I would agree with Ken that closer inspection of the frame and body condition is key. You'll know what you are getting into before spending your extra $ on interior and trim upgrades. Formulating a plan and budget for your first resto will help you see the project thru to completion. That said it looks like a good candidate for resto from the pics we see.
I also agree with Ken on the build it they way you want it. Keeps your interest in the project and effects little of value when completed. Build the car you'll enjoy to own, not someone else.

Thanks meteor.. some great advice.. Im not going for resale value as this car will be passed on to my son.. either way im sure ill love the finished product. Im thinking the fawn interior could still work with a black top and metallic black paint to make the chrome really pop. Right now though its tear down and start from the basics. Frame and body.. most is in ok shape.. some body rust that can be fixed, frame is ok from what i can see but im sure floor boards are junk.

Fawn will look great contrasting with black. You'll find lots of help here. Floor pans, body braces and trunk pans are all available when ordering 66 Impala and the modifications are minimal. Best to get a good look over the underside and price out some replacement parts. All panels available through local body shop supply stores. A good work space with storage for parts is also key.

Ok gents, i have a few more pics for you of underneath the car.. Sorry theyre not better but i have limited space so had to get what i could. The following pics are of the frame and floor pan taken from behind front d.s. Tire.. I also ahave a couple engine shots for you. Frame looks ok from what i can tell but i will have my friend take a look with me as i am admittedly novice in this area.

It does have a 283.. not sure of originality but fits the standard V8 options..

I have not really started yet because i thought about going black on black but wanted to get more info before doing anything.

I did get some quotes and info and now that Ive talked to you guys

Im thinking if fawn is rare maybe i should keep it.. im not a fan of white paint but if its original it may be worth keeping..

paint it black if you want    won't hurt its value    same with interior   If you can get some good used interior pieces go with that

If you can do all the work,   it will be a eazy fix....

Don't let me influence you to the point that you do the car in colours that you don't like, just because it's a rare combination! As the saying goes, it's your car, build it the way you want it.

Yeah they mostly have that problem.  The pictures show a pretty solid car though. I think any 65 or 66 Canadian 2 door hartop or convert would have the same quarter.  Its also quite likley that the 66 American Catalina would also be the same.

Repro panels used to be availalble but they were a rough approximation and I really don't recommend them.  I ended using bits and pieces only from them (but mine weren't to bad)

Your best bet is trying to find some from out west or from the southern states but it won't be cheap or easy to find them or make friends with a good bodyman who know have to make patches properly.

Put it out there on the forum and someone may have a good parts car.  I have a one but the rear quarters are marginal if I remember right  You could try Aldon auto parts in Northern Alberta. (web site)  I believe they still have quite  few 65's and 66's if they haven't crushed them.  Unfortunately for about a year they have not let anybody in the yard to prospect so you'd have to work through them to see if they have anything worthwhile.  They will make you pay through the nose though.
