Best it is gone as there will be no more tormenting ourselves over it. It is what it is, if it gets scrapped it does, but the drive train lives on!!! Down there it's just a "odd Ball" car with a great engine in it!!! When I was in POCI 'some" members called the Cdn. Pontiacs "OBORTIONS" & had no use for them, but I think of late they have started to accept them as part of the family

I have only heard one negative comment in all the times I went to POCI and that was when a guy came running up to tell me I was at the wrong car show (had my Acadian). Once I explained he thought it was cool. I've gone 5 times and shown a car (4 times with my GP or Acadian, once in my friend's Beaumont) and without fail we've had a riot explaining to people what it is.

I am really hoping someone will appreciate this car for what it is and restore it, but as you say, it is what it is, we can't help it if we can't buy it.

Who knows it may end up uber restored on the floor of Barret Jackson next year proclaiming fully documented numbers matching 1 of 17 Margret Trudeau was tapped in the back seat and sell for.....1 million dollars ?  Sorry but someone has gotta be an optimist.

Carl, this happened at the 2005 Conv. in South Carolina & the majority was out in the swap meet area & me with my Canada Tee shirt on, then got asked if i had a "REAL" Pontiac or one of those "CDN. ABORTIONS" made from a Chevrolet!!! But i did get a few of the same while sitting by my 2+2 in the convention centre & they saw the Ont. plates, "OH a REAL ONE" not one of those "&*^%$##@" That just reminded me I found some pics. of that conv. while cleaning out stuff. I'll try & scan some in future.

RE: 1968 427 Parisienne # Matching Available for Sale Still First $4000 owns it. Testament of an enquirer

Geez this car is so tempting!!

I had the pleasure of chatting with CHris over the past 24 hours and although I have decided to pass, I have to say to anyone who is sitting on the fence that Chris seems like a super nice guy and very easy to deal with.  The codes off the block confirm its a correctly dated 385hp 427 - that motor will have the steel crank with 2 bolt mains, the 98cc closed chamber heads #015 and the highrise Q-Jet #7028210 - and a beefed up TH400 - all good stuff.

I am about 3,300 miles and ferry boat ride away from this car or else I'd already own it.

I hope Chris will find a buyer very soon.

I guess the day of a "major' project isn't over yet with the # of members saying they would buy it if it were closer!!!OR are we just saying that to fofill there own dreams, even though they know theres no way in hell they would tackle that job!!!!Any guess how much it would cost to do this car if you had to "farm " out some of it, after having it shipped home to Cda. I'm going to guess you'd be north of $30G's Pete

AT $4000 YOU CAN'T GO WRONG, WHETHER IT GETS RESTORED OR NOT, DRIVETRAIN IS WORTH THAT. IT'S THE COST OF GETTING IT BACK TO CANADA THAT KILLS IT FOR MOST I THINK.

Real estate in Florida has been depressed the last few years. Move to Florida and buy the car! Next thing you know you'll want to add a/c to it.

Cost me 1500.00 from Freeport, Maine to PEI, and customs was a breeze as long as you have all your paperwork in check.

I'd guesstimate $2000.00 to Ontario if you shopped around.

I'd get Jennifer from Shipping Wars to do it:

The 68 427 4 speed bring restored in New Brunswick is a min...  40,000.00    you leave the car and the ownership and 5g  and you keep paying until its ready to go...

The trucking to Canada shouldn't be terrible bad maybe 1500.00 to 2000.00.I know the last time I checked on getting a car from California to alberta it was about 1600.00.As for the resto, well that depends on your skill level.I believe he sais the motor was done recently so just a matter of pulling it and setting it aside, maybe a clean and repaint.Pulling the rest of the car apart not that hard with a little patience and organization being the key so you know what goes where when time comes to put it back together. The toughest part would be the body and frame but a guy can always farm that out but do a lot of it himself, who can't sand a panel himself. There must be frames around or just cut out and rebplace the rotten section surely the whole frame can't be swiss cheese.Well ok maybe if its and eastern car, find a replacement frame, clean it,sandblast it paint it,not that difficult.I can remember when my old boss pointed out the window at an Austin healey and said bring it in and tear it apart.Ok,sure, but with a little guidance I got it done, learned a ton and gained some skills. If you had to farm it all out then definitely going to be pricey.I hope whoever bought it restores it and doesn't cannibalize it for the motor.

Unfortunately this is one of the hazards of waiting in the wings.  I seldom tip my hand and I don't believe in bidding on "No reserve" items until the end of the auction.  It just makes no sense to bid until there is something to win.

I had pretty much talked myself into buying this car and sending it to Canada for at least the fabricating portion of the restore.  Although I live in Michigan, I have owned a number of CP cars and wanted to see this one restored.

When I saw the post, the auction had started or I woud have contacted the seller.  I have no idea what made him sell before the end, I thought it might be very active and I was willing to throw much more than 4k at it as I though that is what it woulld take.  Did I mention I'm currently  in Florida and hauling the car north in May was not going to be a problem.  Of course I felt it best to keep that to myself.

Hope to see the car restored someday and good luck to the seller, knowing this will allow him to move on.  I will continue to lurk, and even though I'm pretty much ignored as a non-canadian, I will consider buying the rare, unusual finished or short term projects, because that is what I do.

Still thinking of this one?  I'd love to see somebody save it, and your situation sounds perfect for the car actually getting done.

BTW, I never noticed you being ignored, but have noticed you hadn't been posting much recently.  FWIW, the more you post the less you will be ignored.  Keep comin' here, the more the merrier!!

I talked to Dave while still in Florida and had my opportunity to purchase the car from him.  My wife was hospitalized prior to this car being posted and spent two weeks in the Cape Coral hospital fighting an intestinal infection.  She was discharged and was recovering in Florida when this car came available.  At the same time I was emailing with Dave, my wife's infection came back and she was re-admitted to Cape Coral and spent another week enduring another round of antibiotics.  Of course during this time I was spenting all day with her in isolation, sterilizing everything at home and hoping for a full recovery.  That was when I told Dave I just could not spend the time to drive up to view the car and could not commit to this car.

After my wife's second discharge from the hospital, I bought her a plane ticket, made arrangements for someone to pick her up at the airport and my daughter drove up from Indy with her two daughters to stay with my wife until I could get home.  Luckily I sold the 63 wagon and shipped it to the buyer while my wife was in the hospital.  I made arrangments to ship my Black 72 Nova home and waited a couple days in Ft Myers until the transporter could pick it up.   After closing things up in Florida and packing the car, I grabbed the dog and hit the road for Michigan.

I have now been home a couple weeks and my wife is doing well.  I have given thought to the 68 several times since being home but the thought of hooking up the trailer and driving 1300 miles each way to bring it home is too much to deal with now.  My wife could not make the trip and I really have many other things to do.  I have a spot in the Mecum Auction next month in Indianapolis and my 72 triple black, 53,000 mile Nova, will run on Thursday, May 16, 2013.

Thanks for the shoutout,  Norm

Sorry to hear about your wife's health difficulties, Norm.  I hope she is doing better now.

Family is always more important than hobbies, and I would have done the same thing in your situation - nothing to be sorry about there.

Somebody might save the car, or not, but it's a small item compared to the health of our loved ones.

Take Care, and don't be a stranger! smile

Mark

Glad you are back home and you wife is on the mend.  Cars are irrelevant compared to loved ones.

Dont worry about the 427 Parisienne - its no longer available - as soon as I find a carrier - it coming home to Canada.

It will NOT meet the sorry end of the 396 2+2 convert I had!
