Wow, looking good too! Sounds like you have a great plan for the trunk. Pulling the body off the frame? Are you sure this isn't going to be a show car? ;)
Thanks man. I don't have enough experience to cut everything out and put a new section in so this is the best way that works for me. HAHA show car yeeeeeah ok. Heres to hoping she turns out half decent though.
Need to pick up some new flap discs tomorrow night and sand blaster accessories.
I've been looking at my motor options. I have a 350 with a lumpy cam that I can put in it. Get some edelbrock intake manifold, carb, air filter, etc. What kind of exhaust do you guys recommend? I want something that will sound good.
Thanks guys. I picked up some fresh metal to finish this trunk off and the floor pan. Got some new flap discs, 60 and 40 grit, WIDE!! I didn't know they made em like that. Should hopefully get it on the hoist this weekend, finally. Bringing in the 350 as well. Going to go over it with a buddy, see if it's doable to turn it into a 383 stroker.
Sorry to say, but all your photobucket links go back to this thread....
Thanks. I copied the wrong link, fixed it now!
Pics are there now.......boy, are you working for your Poncho.....great progress.
Well yes sir I am. It's about time after the car was neglected for a year. I really enjoy the work though. It's difficult working overhead with no clamps on certain pieces, so the dead man comes in handy from time to time. The welding is something else on these pieces when directly above you. Not sure if it's my welder or my technique. Most likely my technique. Now that it's in the shop gonna be able to put a lot more time into this during the week.
Just found a 327 corvette motor in scarborough, stock 300 hp. waiting on the guys response, lumpy cam may go nicely with that and a good exhaust, etc.
So I got just over an hour in today. Here are some pics.
Weird thing with the welder. Was running a bead in then it just stopped. The gas will come out but no wire feed or electricity. Turned it off for 5 minutes then it started to work again. Anyone have an idea of what this might be?
Shot in the dark here but..
Had an old stick welder that worked only so many minutes out of 10.
Depending on how much juice I was using, more juice, less weld time. Forget what it was called.

Hmm must be something similar. It's done it a few times now even welding normally and not overhead. I'm going to get a Licoln or a Miller soon I think.
I've been busy...Hope you guys like how the trunk is turning out.
I placed a 2x6 in the middle and beat it with my hammer to shape the crease.
Don't want to burn through so I tacked it all the way through, lol. Going to grind them down later.
Finally got the seats out.
Lots of tin repairs.
Started cleaning the pan up, lots of glue and undercoat. The grinder wasn't doing the best trick so I switched to using a knife.
Slit right under the shifter.
Body mounts and rockers??
Now here's the 5 window coupe PONCHO that I will be finishing after this Parisienne is saved.
I don't have enough metal left to do full pan work like I did with the trunk but I will probably start doing some patch work on the rockers and mounts tomorrow.
REALLY enjoying this work...think I want to take a fabrication course. Hopefully I can paint this car too!
Lots of hard work being done........just looking at the pics has me sweating.
Good stuff.
Thanks Greaser, tell me about it! Are carpets for these cars hard to come buy or can I get an aftermarket one that is mostly universal? Just wondering incase I have to salvage the one I ripped out of here.
The pan on the inside shouldn't be too difficult to put together, been going over my plan of attack. Should roll from door to door and then solid piece to where your feet lay. Can't wait to have it back on the frame...this time with body mounts :P
Working on a 454 motor and 400 turbo. The corvette engine didn't work out.

I would check with NOSreproductions.com they will tell you what's available for your Poncho
Interesting, thanks Greaser. So I cleaned up the floor pan a bit more and inspected further. I don't think I will have to go about rebuilding the whole thing. Should be able to have a solid floor with some minor patching. The repairs the previous owner did with the rivets are still very solid. Looks like I will grind them down and just tack them to the pan. With some primer and undercoat it should be brand new.
Got my plan of attack for underneath the car but I want to finish the inside first. Anyone experienced with installing the body mounts? How do I go about identifying the mounts? Do the bigger ones go on the back of the frame and the smaller ones on the front half?
Ok guys here is what I got done tonight. Patched about 50% of the holes / visible rotten areas on the floor pan.
Tomorrow I hope to have all of the floor pan patched. The tin is very solid by the looks of it. Then I will proceed to clean the whole pan, grind the rivets, weld the tin together and repair any other problem spots. Once this is done I just have the underneath to finish on the car then I can start priming it and get it ready to go on the frame, X FINGERS!! :D
cheers

Hope this is OK having a triple post here...not trying to break any rules but this is more of a journal at the moment....
Began working on repairs for the front mounts.
I stopped working inside the front to go underneath. It looks like once I fix these parts up I will have more of a foundation to attach the welds to from the inside.
Thinking about using washers for the body mount holes. What do you guys think?

Wow what great patience you have... Nice to see it saved
I have never seen a car that needed that much "saving"
I had a 68 Camaro like that I took it to welding shop, to get rear spring mounts re-inforced and they put it outside, and said they couldn't weld rust lol
Thanks guys, nice to see some life into this thread I was starting to think I was talking to myself. hahha!
I'm getting used to welding against rust now I don't know what good metal looks like, :D
I have more work done since the last pics but I have not taken any -- will do that soon. Been looking at motor options.
Located 2 Muncie 4 speeds on Kijiji, going back and forth with the sellers but they respond few far and in between. Tad frustrating.
Going to use a 350, and convert it to a 383 stroker I think. Looking at kits on summit racing...need to get as much info as possible for building engines, never worked on a car before..just bikes.
Great progress!!!!!!!! Looks like your becoming a pro at welding, be able to weld in your sleep. When the welder cuts out it's called "Duty Cycle" and most machines are 60%, which means you can only weld for 6 minutes out of 10 or they will cut out. Keep up the great work and keep keeping us posted
Hi gents. Some things consumed all my time and I did not have the time and space to work on this. I am getting the woodstove all fired up in the barn after installing some lights. So I will be able to work in there. I got a new Miller welder. Hoping to get back to work on this sometime this week. More pics coming soon.
