Hello to all and thank you for allowing me to join. Have had a longstanding appreciation of the Pointiac and have ownned one or two over the years I am sure I will feel quite at home.

Am currently busy with a restoration on a 1968 South African Beaumont, four door pillarless. Got one plus a doner.

I understand that they were shipped CKD to GMSA (Genral Motors South Africa)

As I go along I would appreciate advise and assistance if I may. Am sure to be looking for parts as well I'm sure.

I will post pic's of the vin tag's if that would be of interest and more pictures later.

Welcome to Canadian Poncho. You can send your VIN info to GM Canada Vintage Vehicle Services. They will tell you what options your car was built with, as well as production numbers.

Welcome,  cool,      i should have placed a bet that they were going to be 4dr Hardtops,   Seems like teh majority of overseas GM cars from canada were 4dr hardtops for some reason.

Would love to see some pictures of the RHD dashboard

Welcome from western Canada. My son is visiting your fair continent this week in Rawanda and then next week in Burundi. Nice to see your cars alive and well there.

If I am recalling right, there were no exported 2 door RHD cars from GM. I may have read that here. Anyone else remember that?

Welcome to Canadianponcho raceface! When I saw that you have a Beaumont in South Africa, like others I also expected to see a 4-door pillarless hardtop. I see that it has the D99 roof moldings. I figure it is probably a 250 (4.1 litre) six with a Powerglide automatic, power steering, power drum brakes, and likely power windows as well. They seemed to be marketed as a luxury car and were often equipped with the power stuff.

I was in Africa last year but I was a long way from South Africa, I was in Kenya and Tanzania. I didn't see any Beaumonts but I did see many old Peugeot 504 & 505 wagons.

I'm betting you're correct on the power window call (I have no idea about the rest!) because if you look above the bulkhead connector on the passenger (driver's) side there is a circuit breaker there exactly like a Canadian equipped power window car would have.

Welcome from Brantford Raceface, very nice to see varations of the Beaumont from other countries. I would love to see some dash pics as well , some  steering pics would be nice. It would be so weird to see a steering box mounted on the right hand side of the frame ! Send more pics please !

Welcome to the site. If you need help or opinions you've come to the right place. hope all goes well with your re-furb. Keep us posted as you make progress.

I sold some parts to a guy in South Africa. He was re-building a 1967 Beaumont. With any kind of luck you may even know him. His name is Thaven Naidoo and he's

from Richards Bay,  Kwa Zulu Natal ,  South Africa.

Good luck with the beaumont

Leo

Here are some pictures of South African Chevelles & Beaumonts, although they are from the previous generation. There is even a picture of a 67 with 66 wheelcovers and LHD. All have straight sixes. The blue hardtop has power windows along with p/s, p/b, Powerglide & a 250, certainly an unusual pairing in North America for the time. Note the RHD dash is a 1964 Chevelle dash through that generation. Note the round red reflectors on the back panel; stock equipment for those cars. The 1966 models had them mounted on little brackets below the bumper. Im also beginning to suspect that all the Chevelles & Beaumonts sold in South Africa had the D99 moldings:2-69.jpg

Looks sort of like a 68 chevelle dash and steering wheel with a 67 style shift indicator on the column instead of in the dash like 68.

Will post more pic's as I go along, being preped for paint, will be a pearl blue, one colour no two tone or vinly.

also going to refit the straight six with tri matic three speed speed box. Yes it did come with power steering and windows.

Seems I am going to need (so far) just the inner door linning, right hand side. Our driver side your passenger side.

Would like a matching blue if that is possible so keep that colour but will have to recover the seats.

If any one can help that will be great thanks.

Have posted a picture of the loose parts as we are cleaning and fixing plus a picture of the engine bay which may be of interest for the location of the steering box.

Wow,  power windows too!

so what is that dash based on?

That would be hard to drive,  shifter and signal is backwards, but gas and brake are normal.

Carl, I've posted pics of two RHD convertibles that have come up for sale here in Australia since I've been a member, but they must be very rare. I've never seen one in the metal. We also had 4 door post cars up to 1966.
