Which part...Impala or Catalina? AND Interior LED bulbs


Would the firewall insulation from a Catalina or Impala fit my '69 2+2? Catalina is 1/2 the price of the Impala! confuse

Also, has anyone replaced the standard bulbs in the gauge and interior lighting with LED's? Does it require any electrical upgrades or additions?

 Dan ("Lefty" on this site) has. PM him as he is on a holiday (ship cruise) right now.

I would say no, because LEDs draw less voltage. I recall there being a problem with Dan's turn signal lights (flasher) because of the less power draw, but I believe they were the exterior lights causing it.

Good question.  My guess is it would be an Impala pad, mainly because I believe the heater box on a Catalina is different than on our Canadian cars.

Actually, if I get a minute I'll see if I can look this up in my Canadian Pontiac / Chevrolet / Pontiac parts books.  I'll let you know how I make out.

LED's require less "juice' so nothing needs to be done for dash & Interior lights!! If you replace frt. signal lights & Brake bulbs with LED's, then you need a LED flasher. I have LED's Front signals on front of 52, with 1157 bulbs in B/signal in rear & run a H/D reg. flasher, Rears draw enogh power to make H/D flasher work!!!! I agree the heater is likely different, the one on my 64 Cat. is diff. than 64 Chevy!!!!

 Thanks Pete! I want to "upgrade" to them for their "brighter" qualities!aww I don't intend on using them on the exterior as I was just looking to get more light and less heat out of the interior bulbs. As far as the firewall pad, I seem to be getting different opinions on that....confuse

I looked it up in the parts book and also in the Chevrolet parts book. 69 Parisienne and 69 Caprice or Impala are the same. For some reason, Biscayne and Belair use a different firewall pad vs. Impala.

If you are ever interested in purchasing a parts manual for your Parisienne (or Impala) to help you with this stuff, let me know. I think I might have a spare of each but I'd have to check to be sure.

Thanks Carl, I was hoping you'd chime in.  I looked through my books but couldn't come up with a conclusion.   I wasn't able to find "Firewall Pad".

I have LED tail lights, with original style 1156 in front and normal flasher.  Also did the entire dash with LED lights, but it was quite a challenge to achieve decent illumination with respect to not having bright spots.  With a lot of patience, finally got it to look decent.  The other difficulty I found was the light color not exactly what I wanted, due to the factory dark greenish gauge background.   Also, no way to dim LEDs that I know of.

 All in all it turned out ok, I think.....

 Hmmm. So the factory dimmer won't dim the LEDs? Maybe I will have to rethink this conversion.confuse
