I took a small square file, broke it so it was a 2" long, dressed the ends so they where not sharp. then knocked down all the raised pits. finished it all up by sanding with 180 ish paper. used the green fine line 1/8" tape I think to cover the raised chrome and masked off the everything else.
light coat of etching primer then a couple of light coats of satin black.
I person could get carried away and spot fill all the pits with a good metal filler, but the chrome on these pieces isn't good enough to warrant all the extra time.
these look great from 10' away... but is southern chrome , so the sun was done it's magic on it.
huge improvement though !
thanks for the complements.

Great job Roger! Looks like you overcame your ADD for a little while!

Looks real good to me Roger, All these parts were for sale at the little Pontiac swapmeet (10 vendors only) in Illinois and pitted too, some guy was asking an outrageous amount for it ...
my rear tailight housings are similar to yours, mine were rechromed but to get the lower part perfect is impossible so i used valve cover krinkle paint,
hides everthing, keep plugging away at the car its lookin good, Dan
That's some nice stuff alright , decent enough pricing.
problem with my bright work...its all Nevada chrome...it all has that dull shine. It will all need to be replaced at some point. New shiny would look out off place at this point.

another member on the site SD421 goes south a few times a year. He bought it , drove it across to the Oregon coast then back across the rocky's to the praries. He started an engine swap ,, in the meantime, something shinier came along that he really wanted , so this 65 Lemans came up for sale...
It turned into more work than I anticipated,, but that is more because I have OCD.... if I know it's not right .. I have to fix it.
nice dry body....but did have trunk rot that had been replaced before it came to Canada.

I rebuilt a 65 lemans post way back in the eighties. It was a fun car. I happened across it in Montana. Have no idea where it is now....It was white with a green interior and I painted it Mayfair Maize. I have some pixs of it in my old album. I should scan them.
that would be awesome to see some pics of your 65 !
Will do Rog!
The 65 is my all time favourite GTO body style. I had a ton of parts but had to give them away when I moved. There still are some things kicking around, if you require anything drop me a line.
progress of sorts.. engine is in the hole. hope to light a fire in it thursday !!!
the yellow mark on the dampner is TDC... the groove in the pulley is where it should be! hub has rotated. I center punched the hub and the center. I will change it eventually.
with the short clutch fork, Z bar alignment was unacceptable. used a longer clutch fork from a 80 camaro ?? started to look better till I 'fit' the headers ..LOL .. 'corrected' the Z bar to clear. Now things look better, I'm going to go back and try the short clutch fork . I also nabbed a Z bar off a 68 Beaumont, it aligns closer to the block , going to try that combo before calling er done. It's easy to play now.. nothing is hooked up yet.
73 455 , 7K3 heads . ST-10 Power Brute 4 spd.
starter needed 6 shims to mesh nicely.. fresh ring gear . I guess.
and then the trouble started !
