I'm starting to think we all get too caught up in these old cars. After all, they were just built as forms of transportation so that a corporation could make money. Where did we go into worship mode where we bow down to the GM logo?
Build 'em how you like and have fun with 'em. If you blow it up, build another one... but have fun with it! You can't take it with you and most of the younger generation doesn't care anyways...
Stupid hobby...
good answer "LIKE"
Ok,so then when a guy lists something for sale, why is it that everyone has a comment about this shouldn't be like this or that, what a pile of crap, exhaust coming through the back up light holes, wrong alternator bracket, sticker in the wrong place, bla, bla, bla. You have to make a choice who you want to be or move to a reserve.Ya I agree that a guy needs a parts car or donor or whatever, but what a shame to ruin such a nice example thats all, wreck something else! O I have a new project.......I purchased a 67 427 Conroy Cheetah on the weekend with 200 original miles,I going to start a build thread on a Tribute to the Batmobile,I'm going to chop the snot out of this beauty because it's a good solid base for my idiotic project.Keep you posted!

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with a "clone" or "tribute" or whatever you want to call them, as long as they are not passed off as the real thing.
A friend of mine loves '70 Super Bees but couldn't afford to buy a "real" one, so he found a really nice Coronet 440 and all the right parts to make it "correct", basically building the car that he would have ordered in 1970 had he been old enough to do so at the time. The finished product is beautiful and is the same as an actual Super Bee except the serial numbers. He does not try to call it an original car, instead referring to it as the WannaBee... so he basically was able to build the car of his dreams without paying for "matching numbers" and probably enjoys it much more than a matching-everything trailer queen that is worth as much as his house. Nothing wrong with that.
My comments on this car are only what I would do with it - keep it original. But, that's only what I would do if I spent my money on it. The reason being, that you don't see many 2 door Chevelles left in their original form anymore. It's a piece of history as it sits. I remember back in the '80s that every Chevelle on the road had SS badges on it... I chuckled that there were more SS's on the road than ever rolled out of the factory.
Today, when I go to a car show, it seems that every old 2-door car has been hot rodded in some way or another. Which is fine, because it's their car and they spent their money on it. I might miss seeing original cars as I remember back in the day, but that's only my preference. I actually feel priveledged to see any old cars, knowing how much work and expense it is to keep them on the road.
On a topic like this, it's so easy for people to get their dander up defending their preference. That makes it interesting, as we all have different preferences, but we mustn't forget that we're all part of this great hobby and we all should perhaps pause for a moment to appreciate one another's viewpoint.
Whew.. that's more than I intended to type about the subject.
Carl, I'm looking forward to what you will do with it once you get it home...
WOW Carl ... you really do need some sunshine with the top down !!
AND yes.. I agree with you ..TRIBUTE...CLONE...whatever ...get over it. The only reservation I have is when a someone misrepresents a car to .. to swindle a huge dollar out of it.
I was dealing on a 70 GTO ....well at least that is how the guy bought it,,,,paid big bucks...DID not do his homework... it was not even a 242 car.....yet had every nut and bolt to be a GTO. He ended up selling at a loss ,,,,but he was honest about what he was selling.. I would have bought it in a heartbeat ,,,just couldn't swing the dollars at the time.

ok, but it has to have a nice chrome script on the deck lid that reads : CLONE :
Think about this The Muscle car era was 1964-1974
almost 50 year ago 50 years !!!!
All the "big horse" original cars or Historical cars are junk or in Musuems or in trailers
the only way a "working man" can get a decent car, is to build one...
Call them clones or replicas or Hot Rods
It almost 50 years ago!!
Most owners are grey, with glasses and can't remember what they did yestrerday...
Who cares?
You've got fellows looking for "matching number" rims and "alternators" and "starters" and on and on for 2 door nothing cars or even 4 doors
Fellows anal over parts that do nothing for a car...
Fellows buying NOS parts for junkyard mult -year, never to be finished projects..
and you want a CLone sign on the trunk Get real
hey ! i dont like clones , i am real and i appreciate real cars with numbers matching...........if you have a problem with that you dont have to tell me to get real!
the clone sign on the trunk bit was just some good old humour by the way.
