65 acadian beaumont A C A D I A N letter progress

I started moulding the letters of the tail panel last week.  I've only had a bit of time to work on them.. but.. I've finished the "A" and I'm half way through the "I" and started repair on the "D" and the "N"..

so.. heres what they look like.. they are a resin.. and are chromeable, but I havent searched long enough for a plastic chromer locally.

You can see the difference (maybe) if you look at the clear "A" beside the "A" on the tail panel.. the "A" on the tail panel is from the set that the Lizon's had made by a jeweller, and the shrank about 10% by the time they had them cast in metal (Pewter I think).. you'd only notice this if you had an original beside the new ones.. and they didnt fit the same on the panel as the originals..

the Resin "A" that I just cast is the same size and fit.. if it did shrink any, it would be 2% or less..

Kelly, Joe Lizon had the letters made up a number of years ago. He had the studs drilled and tapped for a small beveld screw to hold them on the rear panel

yeah, I know.. I bought a set.. and I had them beside my originals (of what I had) and the size difference was actually quite surprising.  the screw idea was a better plan for sure.. except the screws got chromed as well and the allen

wrench didnt like to fit so good.  but.. they did a pretty nice job of them.

I may actually make a mould of the panel itself too.. maybe with the letters already in place.. so it's a one pc deal.. but in plastic.. once painted.. you'd never know.

still looking Dan.. but not too worried about it.  I may have to have a dozen or so made in order to make it worth while for the chrome shop.

Great stuff Kelly ! Used to be a place in Winnipeg called Chrome F/X on Gunn Road. Don't know if they are still around or not but I believe they did vacuum plating. I think I have an old business card at the shop.

so far.. this 'chrome paint' is pretty good.. there is some reflection in the letters.
just have to make the 'C' and the set is complete.

Great job on these! Are you planning on making any more sets, to sell, to forum members by any chance? They look amazing

I think so yes. I've been trying to cast a few every couple days. so once I get a bunch done I'll post them here first.
I'm still not sure what the best method of fastening them will be. probably a JB weld or something similar dripped through the back side of the panel onto the letters.

I wish you would have cast an "R" for all the times I've heard it's an ARCADIAN.

I'll definitely take a set! I am missing an I and an N and have them all removed right now but would love to replace them. I found a rusty '64 beaumont deluxe, with a '65 front end, that has the letters but they aren't the same.

Yes definitely. Get yourself back on the Arctic Air set and come check it out.

Great job with those letters. I am very impressed. There is a guy in YK with a rusty '64 hardtop and a '64 wagon with the front corner smashed up. I went to look at the letters but the backs of them are flat and will not fit into the panel on the back of the 65... there is a junk yard and I found a '62 or '63 Acadian with the rear letters intact, but again, the backs of them are flat... I am definitely interested in a set of these letters that you make.
