On e-Bay, a rare Canadian 1966 Chevelle 300 convertible, in Ohio. Currently bid to $10,000! It is one of only 197 6-cylinder 300 convertibles built for 1966. There were another 230 built with V8s.
It looks to be in great original shape but has numerous tacky add-ons like fender skirts together with wheel opening moldings, plus door edge guards. It also has Malibu upholstery & door panels plus carpet, no doubt due to the utter lack of availability of the original plain stuff & black rubber floor covering (a floor ruster anyway). With headers & Supertrapp mufflers out back it must buzz like a bumble bee!
Still equipped as it left the factory, Regal Red with red interior & a black top, it was factory equipped with a puny 194 c.i.d. six (with headers added!), Powerglide, power steering, power top, Deluxe Seatbelts, wheel covers & whitewalls. No radio originally. Sold new out of Holland Chev-Olds in Burlington, Ontario.
I'd agree that the skirts look really obtuse on that car. It doesn't carry them at all, not like the beautiful Big Pontiacs of the 1960s into the 1980s.
That Chevelle needs to lose some of the tacky add-ons and it would be a really nice car IMHO. If it were mine I would strive to return it to something a little closer to stock body details. A 194 would get great fuel economy if you stayed out of the main jet, like over 30 mpg at 50 to 60 mph. Still the 194 is pretty small. Power steering is rare on a car like that, but surprisingly the power top isn't.

Agree, Ditch the skirts, and the exhaust (make them less noticeable) and even the wheels..... Make it just like the one in the brochure.

In the Beaumonts & Chevelles, the tiny 194 six was standard from 1964 through 1966, with the 230 optional. The standard six carried no badging, while the optional 230 would carry a 230 badge. The 230 badge was shared between the 1964 Chevelles & 1964 through 1966 Beaumonts. The Chevelles used a different crest that was shared for 1965 & 66.
For 1967 the 230 was made standard and carried no badging. The 250 was now optional and was badged on the Chevelles but not badged on the Beaumonts.
