wire from dash ( fuel gage ) to tank sending unit

i can not  remember where is  the  wire  in  the harness  that  runs  under the carpet  to  the   trunk , does it  go  in the  trunk  , or  somewhere under the  car  ????? to  the  sending  unit

if  the  wire  (  that  runs  from the dash  to  the  sending  unit )  is not  in that   floor harnes  , where would it  be  ??

i am  almost  shure  it does not  run  under the car .  i am looking  to  relate  my   sending  unit to  fuel gage

thank you  all

On my 70, the wire the goes to the fuel tank sending unit is contained within the body harness that goes to the tail lights.  That harness runs from near the fuse block, under the carpet and under the rear seat.  It then follows the perimeter of the left trunk opening, and has a connector right by the left rear corner of the trunk opening.  From there, another harness goes across the back of the car, and the wire from the fuel tank sending unit attaches to it near the trunk latch.   It's kind of a tan color.

i have noticed 2 or more  connectors by  the   trunk  latch , but  i figured  one  was for  the  back up  lights  and the  other  was for   the  licence plate   light...........hmmmmmm  maybe   the  other one  would be  the  sending  unit  , it  would possibly  run  from  there  on top of the tank  to  the sending  unit  ???

Carl  says  it  passes through   the  floor on top  of the  diff  , can  any one   confirm  that  it would  run  in  the  flat  harness ???   from  the  dash

i  will check  again  tomorow

ok, to simplify things, what year, make & model car are you working on?  Plus, do you have a service manual for the car in question?  If so, the wiring diagram will identify this.

RE: gas tank sending unit

There should be one wire running along the floor that hangs down around the centre of the diff. I suspect that wire will be light brown. If not, in later years I believe they were pink. That wire has a round rubber boot covering the terminal on the end and that snaps on to the round pin sticking out of the sending unit. The rubber boot sort of snaps on to the sending unit to weatherproof the connection.

Then there should be a black wire going from the perimeter area of the sending unit to a ground screw, likely on the floor pan.

since my floor has been riped out completely , maybe the wire also.....

Carl when you say along the floor do you mean under or on the floor ???

does it run with the flat harness ?? or seperately
