I think that a battery must have ruptured or ? previously, the passenger inner fender well as well as around the battery tray and front area seemed to have gotten the brunt of it.  It seemed to expedite the paint removal in the engine area and then the surface rust followed.  So I am going through and cleaning/painting the affected area's but leaving the firewall as is .  The undercarriage was heavily undercoated from new.  I just freshened up the faded undercoating.

Have to clear out the shop to do some other work so it will be reassembled as a roller and I will be back at it in appx. 3 week's when the engine will be finished.  I will post more pic's when it's in roller status and as headway is made.  Thank you for digging this as much as I do.  Ty

The lip moulding is actually in pretty nice shape, however I do have rust along the inner trunk lid along the lip closest to the rear of the car.  Must have been put away without being properly dried on a number of occasions.  Will post a couple more pics of the progress in the next couple of days.  I was fortunate and was graciously directed to a source for the tach, I have decided to only do the factory tach as a add on, and not pursue the manual gauges avenue at this point.

If you want a template for installing the tach in the correct location, I sent one to Ken (66GrandeGuy). I used it first on my car, then sent it to him. If he still has it and you talk nice to him maybe he would pass it along. As a matter of fact, I bet I can safely speak for him knowing what a helpful guy he is, and say he almost certainly will pass it along to you if he kept it. The wiring on them is very basic.

I can guarantee Ken will be following this thread so he will see it if he's not away at work.

And I just checked, he was here a couple of hours ago so he's around.

Yup just used it, Still have it and happy to send it along. Just send me a private message and we'll get it in the mail.

One note is that your tach may or may not work. I just recently had mine rebuilt so i can direct you there if necessary.

Tyler, I'm not sure if any of us mentioned, or if you already know, but the 65 tach face markings are not the same as 66 markings. Otherwise the tachs are twins.

The gentlemen I spoke to for the tach explained that he will be sending me the 66 tach with the redline.  I new there was a difference but I didn't realize it was the redline, I assumed it was mounting or the base.

Great article, when it say's hook up brown to positive and natural to "rheostat"  What is the term Rheostat used for in this instance and should the tach lead be the "pulsed" signal of the ground?  Also is there a existing harness already there or did you make one up.

Thanks

Oh, before I forget, one misprint there. Brown goes to NEGATIVE on the coil and it says positive! You likely already know this since you are a technician, but just in case....

I can't believe GM made that mistake in their manual!

I believe rheostat means the lamp wire which dims with all the other dash lights. I just looked at mine. I have a black (ground), brown (coil - terminal), and gray (light wire).

I had to make up a harness but it's pretty much just the brown wire anyway. Otherwise a short black for ground and short gray for light.

Thanks Carl, one more quick question.   I ordered some Monroe sensamatic shocks, installed the fronts no problem but the rear were wrong the upper mount were the two bolts go through was not at a angle like the originals.  They ordered the shocks for a 66 Caprice, all the other suspension components thus far have been correct using the Caprice designation.  They don't list Parisienne's, will the Catalina rear shocks fit?

No, Caprice should be correct and Catalina won't be. Something funny there, the Caprice should bolt on. Do you have the part number of the shocks they gave you? I sell Monroe at work, I could check the number for you.

These are the last pic's of updates until I get the engine  pieces back from the machine shop.  Had to push it out of my shop and into my front garage, hopefully will be back full tilt in 3 weeks for the final push on the mechanical part of the project.

They gave me a Monroe 5802 and I returned it and they ordered me a 5820.  Ty
