Complete full 360... What's old is new again... well sort of!

Not sure how many others of you do this but I am a fanatic in snapping pictures of the odometer when it shows all like numbers.. Such is the case of my '70 Estate Wagon I happily purchased from Cheviac, Ken, 2 years ago... I installed a new set of muffler (bearings) and pipes as what was on her wasn't to my liking... Too quiet. Wanted a little more of a rumble..
Was going to a car show a couple weeks ago and on the way I had to stop the car and take the pics as shown... Not exactly Christine-ish but cool to witness. This is my first time to capture the detail so I stopped on the road and snapped a few pics for the photo album! Then, I had to hightail it to catch up to the rest of the pack...

Even though she is looking ragged around the edges, I would like to and will one day paint the the old gal, I just don't see it happening yet as this is still, what's left of it, her original coat...

The engine bay is still much original possibly except for the coil, wires and a few other accessory trinkets... Cheviac had to install a p/steering pump and bracketry I believe. It even has the original teflon impregnated u-joints still in place!

Estate 454.JPG

The carb is the original, numbers at least.. I have to make a new fuel inlet line for it...

Estate Carb2.JPG

Estate Carb1.JPG

When I saw these cables, I was 1 second in hacking them off till I saw the numbers... I contacted one of our members and he informed me that these too were original.. Who knew? 454's came with side posts! Go figure...

Sorry for being long winded... It's tough to believe that this car doesn't get the "original" trophy at car shows... but painted non original powertrain and interior cars do... But those that do appreciate it, do chat for a long time about it..

Do you have picture of the interior?
congratulations, would always vote for an original unrestored than for refreshed original with silver painted exhaust manifolds...yuck

(lol) Nah, Johnnee... Shes the quiet low profile type... I will get a couple of interior shots... And, as for the Pembina Triangle BB bandit? He is pre '70... Although, heard he has one of his own now... Should we give karma a call??? Ahh, we will let him live with his wrong doings... Time served!

Thanks guys.. Her production date was October 9th.. She is a sweet old ride... Buzz along at 70-75 but I am tempted to install a 700-R4 just to bring the revs lower... She got @16-17mpg on a 334km trip I did.. But I do drive it...

I too a couple of pics tonight.. The woodgrain comes back to life when wet and I was told by a bodyman to scotchbrite the grain and use a 2K clear on it... I may retain its woody look...

Did, being the operative word! Halagens too! How long ago was that? Was it for sale online, auto trader... etc?

Yes, when Derek in Calgary was selling it back in about 2007 it was still sporting the black wire headlight guards, but wasn't running.   I seriously considered it, but we just couldn't agree on price so it went to Cheviac in Saskatoon.   I thought Cheviac put on a new exhaust system, but maybe it was just a new muffler.  It also looks like you've straightened out the tailgate a bit.

Yes, the 454 cars had side-post batteries, as my 454 Laurentian still has the original cables, as did the 454 wagon I parted out.  When I rebuilt my 454 for the convertible, I had a set of fuel pump to carb lines made by finelines (copied from an original set I had), but it never quite fit right into the carb, and I ended up abandoning the upper line and bent my own.

The engine compartment in your wagon is very complete, including the usually absent wire clip from front engine lift to the external fuel filter, and you'll also note it's an early build car as it has a throttle linkage / carb mounted kickdown switch.  A mid year change went to a throttle cable and gas pedal mounted kickdown.  When I changed the Green/Gold 2+2 from a 2 bbl to a 4bbl 400 engine, I had a tough time finding the proper throttle cable, but was finally successful searching ebay.

I really appreciate your car. I love it just the way it is!

My car is much the same. I just want the mechanicals to be really good. Someday I'm just going to semi-gloss clear it, and I'm done.

That is a very interesting wagon you have there Vincent, thanks for sharing. I too would be tempted to leave it as it is. The more I see of cars that are original but the shine of the paint has lessened the more I appreciate them. The only ones I appreciate more is when the guy tells me he is the original owner.

When I was looking at it, I figured I could have used the excuse of requiring a station wagon for my basement reno.  Could have transported a bunch of 2x4's, insulation, etc in the car.

 Thanks John!

Clint, I finally removed that 2-ton hitch off of it too... Welded to the frame in all 4 corners......

Only problem with the cool shot of the odometer flipping is the speedo should be at 120, not 20!!!

As far as the Pembina Triangle BB bandit, all I can say is I'll just wait till you guys think it's all cool, let your guard down and then I'll start yanking RATS!!!

Uh-humm..  I only had the speedo @15mph less than that... Thanks for the heads up on the "guard" situation... I will have Mr. Slugger in place at all times!
