leaky heather core

Just watch the size. If you have your's out, compare it to the new one at the parts desk. Both Geoff (03cts Sport) who owns a '66 Beaumont, and I got given smaller than original heater cores by parts suppliers.

... also specify whether your car has, or has not got AC when ordering.

You can always price out a re-core and compare it to a repro. part's price. I always like the idea of re-cores.

i just want the unit to last , sometimes the new stuff now a days is built so cheap , maybe i prefer getting mine recored

i will check the suppliers prices and take mine out ( i am refering to the Bel Air ) and mesure it to compare and get the right size

i will check with a local radiator shop to have an idea to see how much they charge

but if i can be shure about a new one ( quality wise ) i t would be easier ot get a new one

sometimes the old stuff is worth rebuilding , because it s old stuf !!

we all know about the new stuff ....................

depends where your's is leaking?? most likely from the core,, then it is starting to rot. new is the way to go.

I've fixed many a core and rad, it is a judgement call. I test mine on air at 15 psi for a week if I can , before reinstalling.. made some adapter pieces to do this , tee with a gauge and a shrader valve to get air in.

Ya, I ordered a '64 Impala non-AC one (for my '64 Parisienne) at NAPA and it turned out to be almost 2" shorter in length confuse(it still would have fit by rejigging the housing ... which I didn't want to do).

I ordered another one from a internet Chevy parts supplier and it was the right size.

Since then, I've bought another original, unused one, in with a bunch of other '64 parts, and had it pressure-tested at a rad shop. It is perfect, and is much better looking than the aftermarket one (not that you'll ever see it).

Have to watch the recore stuff too.

Make sure what you get back is the same size as what you sent in.....off a quarter of an inch sometimes could make

a struggle to put it back in place.

Measure before you recore.
