Stolen classic cars....Where's the national police or insurance list?

Just saw this ad, this poor guy who had two classic cars stolen, and it got me wondering if there was a site that showed a list and pictures of cars stolen.

http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1981-Chevrolet-Camaro-Coupe-W0QQAdIdZ505932768QQfeaturedAdZtrue

There is a police site which is okay to input a vin # to see if it is stolen, but how does that really help to recover the car sooner than later?

As I was told by the police when my 55 Chev disappeared,

it's easy to change VIN numbers on those old cars and not to expect to see the car again. (fortunately it was recovered, wheels were stolen)

http://www.cpic-cipc.ca/English/index.cfm?CFID=6329744&CFTOKEN=50184589&jsessionid=bc301326161374779796251

Why isn't there a national police site or a national insurance bureau site that has a data base of pictures of these stolen cars?

Wouldn't it be in their interest to have these cars recovered?.....maybe that stolen Pontiac was seen in someone's garage by someone driving by,

or seen on a trailer on the highway.

There are a few stolen car sites, but nothing that I see in a single database.

This 2013 and with internet, computers, cameras, and information are all at everybody's fingertips.

Why isn't there a sort of  "Stolen alert" that can be posted and viewed

almost immediately when the vehicle is stolen, all located from one source.

You see posters of missing children everywhere, these stolen classic cars can likewise be posted in auto stores and gas stations.

Better chance of recovery I would think....

I don't think you can compare missing children and classic cars

Only a very, very small percentage of the public actually care about classic vehicles. It would cost a lot of money to develop, maintain, and finally enforce, when it comes to a stolen classic vehicle registry.

I'm sure most Canadians would just want a stolen vehicle registry period! Most later model vehicles are worth far more on average than most classic vehicles.

Remember Canada'$ firearm regi$try?biggrin

There is one...

It's called CPIC. Any time a car is stolen the VIN is put on CPIC. All police when dealing with a traffic violation will run the plate on it. If CPIC comes back as stolen the police will make an attempt to return it to the rightful owner. Is it perfect, no..but some police don't investigate stolen vehicles like Winnipeg Police, it's left to the public insurer..who really don't care and pay out next to nothing when a vintage car is stolen....

Call the auto registry and give them the situation.

Might only be good for parts.
