suppose to be chrome, then the grain area get painted

I've found a company in Toronto that will do individual small parts. I'd used CV Platers in BC but they stopped a couple of years ago. I'm getting some dash and radio knobs done soon so I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

Has anyone had their 66-67 dash rechromed? I'm curious to approximate cost... I've never taken it apart, is the 'grained' area not a separate piece? it would be a shame to have to paint it...

The dash bezel in my '65 Beaumont is being done right now. I sent it to Performance Restorations in Keller, Texas. They specialize in GTO dash restorations and have been doing it for many years. I sent it to him in the fall and am expecting it back in the spring, he told me it would take a few motnhs, which I am fine with. I spoke with the owner, Darrell Roach, for a few hours about what direction I wanted to go with it. He is very very knowledgable in GTO dashes. He had only seen a few Beaumont's in his life and thought they were really cool cars. He said the plain black dash in the Beaumont is equivalent of what a Tempest of lower end pontiac would have. My car is not an SD so I am not worried about keeping it original, and dedicded that I would like to have the GTO '65 woodgrain vs the original black grain. The process is to chrome plate everything and then paint the inside of the holes black (so the chrome doesnt reflect off the guages) and leave the trim chrome as well as the inside surround. The outside dash portion will be painted blue as per what I originally sent him, but the chrome will be all redone and will have the GTO woodgrain insert, which will compliment the three spoke wood wheel.

Cost is $475 for the stripping, replating and repainting, then $75 for the blue paint match, $45 for the woodgrain insert and $25 for shipping, so $620 USD is what I spent on it.

I have had several Beaumont dashes done over the year 66,67 and 68,69 as well.The fella I used to use has passed on-he was in Ontario.Just sent my Buick GS dash to a guy down south in Michigan.He also paints and details stuff-really nice work from what I have seen.The thing is that plastic replating has changed from what I hear.The older chrome jobs used a clear that went yellow after a short time-now they use a different top coating that stays clear as the day it is finished-supposedly much much better.

But to answer your initial question-yes they were plastic chromed and then painted.Getting the correct dash" blue/green " for beaumonts was alittle bit of a chore but I did manage to get it
