No. 1 Tonawanda Team

my 70 454's I've got from Canadian Pontiac's all had them on the passenger side valve cover.   Can't speak to 1967, but I presume so.

Was the No. 1 Tonawanda Team decal seen on the passenger side

valve cover of big block Chevys starting in 1967 used on 67 big block

Beaumonts?

I suspect it was as the engines would have been shipped to Oshawa

with it on and can't see the Oshawa Beaumont line removing it.

Can anyone verify this.........any pics?

thanx

bj

I'll bet they did, but I am not going to say for sure. If we could get a hold of Rick Mitchell or Don Earnshaw, both original owners of '67 SD396 cars since new, I'm sure they could answer this question.

My US built 69 Caprice 396 had that sticker on the right valve cover. My US built 68 Caprice 396 does not.

We should ask forum member "Coop", Bob Cooper in Calgary. He owns a Granada Gold '67 SD396 and has owned it since new.

Hey guys

thanx for the responses......an interesting detail for sure.

Here's a pic of my untouched engine compartment, 87,000 miles, heads

have never been off the motor and the decal is in place, no reason to suspect added

or valve cover swap as the decal is faded equally with the Econo Jet on the air cleaner

Found repro decals at Osbourne Reproductions in Georgia about 10 years ago.

Will be pulling the engine this winter to detail but no rebuild as it is still

too young to smoke.......

here's a question for the knowledgeble....

Were the big block motors from Tonawanda also sent to the GM full size Chevy plant in Ste.Therese Quebec between between 1967-1972?

And if so would they too have the Tonawanda Team stickers?

Yes - my understanding is all big block Mark IV Chevys during this time period were produced

in Tonawanda NY and would have had that sticker.............

This is a reproduction available, obviously if on a Pontiac it wouldn't say Chevrolet.

Would it say Chevrolet for Canadian built Chevy cars or was there a "exclusive"

designed sticker for Canada that was generic for all Canadian built cars?

Just wondering what a Ste. Therese Quebec made car would have on the decal.

my 67 Beaumont has the Chevrolet Tonawanda sticker......don't think anyone at Tonawanda

way back then worried about these Chev engines going in anything but a Chev........and GM Canada

to my knowledge didn't care one way or the other

That's the sticker used on the big block engines in Canadian Pontiac's as well.
