RE: Beaumont Pontiac or Acadian?

Beaumonts were built in Chile until 1971 or 1972. They were based on the 1968 or 1969 body and were badged as Beaumont GTAs. There area couple members here from Chile. Idon't know if they are still active.

I think the quickest way to sum this up is the fact that Pontiac vins start with a 2, whereas Beaumonts and Canso vins start with a 7.

Actually Canadian Pontiacs all start with 7, this is why they are known as Series 7000 to differentiate them from US Pontiacs.

(It wasn't until 1972 I believe that Pontiac switched to 2 in Canada)

Thanks for clarifying that Ray, and thanks for the "can of worms" pic Dave!smile

Pontiac USA would not allow the use of the Pontiac name on the Acadian/and Beaumont vehicles.

Thanks

I always thought it was GM -> Pontiac -> Beaumont

I never knew this car had such an interesting history and confusing one lol

Do you have your documents from General Motors Vintage Vehicle Services ? That is the one and only official source of reliable information from the manufacturer of your car. Everyone on this forum swears by these documents as the absolutely best way to document your car and is so appreciative that this Canadian only service exists.

I have searched and searched and NOWHERE on our 67 Beaumont is the mention

of Pontiac...........even tho my GM Documents from George Soporo say Pontiac Beaumont, but that I'm sure is

a product of everyone calling them Pontiac Beaumonts, not factual information.

If GM had intended it to be a Pontiac it would say Pontiac, just like Chevrolet says Chevrolet, etc

I think the Beaumont may have left the Acadian Division after (or maybe, during) the 1966 year.

My factory documentation (1966) all tells me to be sure to take the car to my local Acadian Dealership for servicing etc.

I don't know what the '67 through '69 manuals say. Do they refer you to "your local Beaumont" dealership?

I had a young fella tell me that he had a "Chevrolet Acadian" because thats what it said on his insurance papers confuse

I think if Acadian or Beaumont were Pontiacs they would have a Pontiac emblem or script somewhere on the body, like every other Pontiac..

I just want to let you know Robin (1964_SD) that in the past that discussion on this topic has lead to personal attacks, name calling etc on Canadian Poncho. The topic has been hashed to death here with no resolution and there never will be agreement on it. We will consider the discussion on this to be ended with no further posts on it.

Thanks.

Carl

What about the Plymouth Valiant being called a Chrysler Valiant in Canada in the early 60s? I think the Beaumont was proudly a Canadian car and was highlighted as such. They were sold as a cost-effective equivalent to the Tempest / Lemans / GTO.

How does the MOT classify them when the Acadian name dropped off the radar? "Everyone knows they are Pontiacs." No resolution for this one....
