From what I can tell you just replaced the pinion seal not the crush sleeve. If that is the case I wouldn't tighten past 150ftlbs other wise you stand the chance of crushing the sleeve and messing up the pinion depth.
I did this on my 70 GTO in the past with no issues but caveat is that I didn't drive it more than a couple 1000 miles a year and it lasted for 8 years before I sold it.
Reading "CHILTONS" manual, says to count the threads showing "before" taking apart & re-set to same amout of threads!!!!! Ratation torque the same as above Pete

I had to change the pinion yoke & seal on my convertible, and also had to change the pinion seal on the 454 Laurentian. If I recall, I just torqued it to 70 or 80 foot lbs. Haven't had any problems with either.
If you don't have any issues other than the seal leaking and looking for the easiest and fastest way that is guaranteed to work. Take a chisel and mark the nut to the end of the pinion threads before you take it apart. After changing the seal, tighten the nut back up to line the marks up after end play is gone. Loctite the nut.
