Leaky clutch fan ?

I found oil leaking under my Pontiac 455 with AC,  big clutch fan I stored in my basement years ago, does it mean she's no good anymore ? I learn something everyday, I didn't know there was oil in these ...

Pascal, I'm afraid from what I know, that means it's junk, yes.

I learned the hard way too...

MAYBE NOT THE RIGHT WAY BUT YOU COULD JUST LOCK IT UP BY DRILLING A HOLE ALL THE WAY TROUGH THE FAN CLUTCH AND RUNNING A LONG BOLT THROUGH IT!!

WILL STILL LOCK STOCK THAT WAY!

IT WOULD BE LOCKED UP THAT WAY THOUGH AND IT WILL ALWAYS TURN AS FAST AS THE PULLEY ALL THE TIME!!

SOMETHING WE USE TO DO TO OUR STOCK CARS FOR MORE COOLING AT HIGH RPM'S!!

MORE DRAG ON MOTOR AND LESS FUEL ECC AND LOADER AT HIGH WAY SPEEDS BUT A LOT MORE AIR FLOW ALSO IF OVER HEATING IS AN ISSUE!!

I GUESS IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR NEEDS!

JUST SAYING THIS COULD BE ANOTHER OPTION MAY NOT BE FOR EVERYONE THOUGH!!!

Thanks guys, I can always remove the clutch, keep the fan, buy a new one in the future if need be... GM still make these ? Or made in Tawain/China junk?

I sell the cheap overseas junk at work and have a very very high return rate on those things. Fortunately, they usually fail in the warranty period but honestly I wouldn't use one on my own car.

I can check if GM is still available. However, the price on them is real high, but it's worth it in the end.

Do you want me bring the one off of the 455 from Robert. I won't be using it anytime soon. Is there a part number to confirm?

I'll dig it out today to check it over.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm just saying my stored clutch fan was found leaking, I have a nice running one on my car already so I won't use this one for a long time. I like the lock up bolt idea :)

Clutch fans are junk period. Put them in the scrap heap where they belong and use a quality flex fan. George.
