Hopefully you have some decent valve springs on it. Those short stroke 283s don't mind revving, and the L-79 cam likewise. Don't forget proper break-in oil as per the cam manufacturer's recommendation. I like the GM EOS.

You know what heads would work great on that small bore 283? A set of 305 H.O. heads. The chambers would help with the compression, they have hardened valve seats, plus they have 1.94" intakes which are neither too large for that bore, yet an improvement over the stock 1.72".

Because the L-79 cam has enough overlap that it will bleed off cylinder pressure, engines so equippeed work well with higher compression ratios. It might take away a little from your bottom-end torque, but once you get it "on the cam" it will be entertaining.

It looks like a fun package.

I see a funnel on the trans dipstick tube. Don't overfill it or you will smoke that trans!

Cameron , we did overfill it for a couple of seconds , till the torque converter filled up ......

i put in normal 10w 30 oil that i will flush after how many hours of operation ???

valve springs are new , but i did not try the car fully because it os not road worthy yet and winter is comming arround here

i have to get that electric choke ajusted because the fast idle is to high

Looks like first start up worked well. Congrats .   Always liked the sound of a high revving 283 or 327 . You put that combo in front of a four speed and 410 gears and look out. Otherwise with a power glide  hold her in low till about 80 miles an hour . LoL

They say it is best to keep the revs between 2000 ~ 2500 RPM for the 1st 20 minutes in order to get adequate oil pressure and oil splash on the cam lobes, then an oil change to check for metal particles. Back when those cars were new, inital running consisted of moving them around on the assmbly line, holding lot and car transporter, but then again they had zinc in regular oil, plus they used high zinc oil for the initial fill on the line. New cars with roller cams don't need the zinc (and the EPA won't allow it for a number of reasons).

Overfilling that 'glide just to fill the torque converter, under no load is no problem at all. If it is wildly overfilled and you drive it hard you can burn up all the friction plates in it and a total overhaul is imminent in short order.
